Recently Dottie has been goong thorugh a molt and still is, the day light hours are short , so at first I thought it would be normal for her to loose a little weight however the otherday I had a look in the coop and seems she didn’t have the energy the fly onto the perches and out through the door, I pick her up, i could feel her bone absolutely no meat on her her legs are skinny and she finds it hard to keep her balance , her comb and waddles are deflated and have lost all colour , whats odd is the other 4 dont seem as bad, although Theodora who is usually quite chunky, seems to have lost some weight but the other three are fine. Only the two going through the molt have lost weight but Dottie definitely had it worse, my first thought was worms, like any chicken keeper i didn’t want to believe the worse and added DE to their food and Verm X to there water.Ive stared giving dottie poultry power to see if that will give her some energy im also giving her chick crumb and chickepeas( for the molt). Im aware worm is a problem that takes time to solve but am not confident that she has enough time to see it through. Does anyone have any effective solutions, as to how to deal with this situation. Do you think its worms? How can i help her?

Some chickens will starve themselves to death during a heavy molt. I would recommend weighing her to see how bad the situation is and if she isn't actively eating I would consider tube feeding. I would also give her a head to toe exam and get a good look at her poop if you can to see if there are any signs of worms or other issues.

How old is the hen? Vermex and DE will not effectively treat worms. What is your location? Depending on your location, there are several good dewormers available. What are you feeding? Was she laying before she molted?

When i offer her chickcrumn she eats it all in no time. Ive examed her, no external parasites or injuries. Just very thin.

a year and a half , 2 in july, We’re in England,im feeding them half and half layers and growers for the extra protein, no she stopped laying a while ago i think its been about a month .

DE does nothing for worms.

Have you checked her crop to see if it's impacted, or not?
Here crop is very small , which is odd because she eats what i give her, i dont have to force feed as i present the food and she eats, bu maybe she isn’t eating on her own?. And i wouldnt think its due to bullying as she is at the top if the pecking order and still is

It's good that she's eating.

What do you feed? What type of feed, & how often do you give treats?
