Lol. 12 guinea hen eggs are coming in June also. Add that to30 chicken varieties already here “ three, week old chickies and three teeny bantams that just hatched. and a broody hen sitting on 20 Muscovy eggs. Why do they all want to lay in the same nest?
That is what I'm trying to figure out before making my coop bigger. I have 3 decent size boxes for 9 hens (my stopping goal :gig). Should I make more for the new section of coop?

Well we bought some property (6 acres) I picked up a beautiful roo and hen, a friend gave me two more hens... then I thought it would be super cool to order a surprise box from Cacklehatchery.com and that gave me 46 chicks and two ducks.

Two of the chicks didn't make it and then one of my hens went broody and hatched two more babies. Last night I lost my broody hen, because I forgot to close the coop door.

So that makes 49 chickens and 2 ducks for me. :)
I'm sorry you lost your hen,:hugs if your anything like me I see an opportunity to replace (get more) to fill the void.

We started with 6 chicks from Tractor Supply Easter Weekend (2 leghorns + 2 Delawares + 2 Red Rangers).

Add 2 Silkies + 3 Brahmas the following weekend.

Add 6 Ameraucanas + 4 Olive Eggers two weeks later.

Add 2 Silkies yesterday...

Unfortunately 3 Ameraucana chicks passed away this week.:hit

Today’s total = 20 chicks in 6 weeks. However, the day is young...who knows how many will be here by this evening. :love:celebrate

I started off with my wife saying no chickens. I brought home 5 and hide them in the shed. She went out to the shed to get her gardening tools and found my chicks. We took a trip down to TSC and bought 20 more chicks in various colors. We got sick of buying chicks so we bought an incubator 2 years ago and hatched about 60 chicks. this year we bought another incubator and hatched 60 more. Now we have between 150-180

Picked out all the breeds I wanted. Ordered a total of 8 chicks. 1 died unexpectedly. Hatchery can't ship just one chick. Got 5 replacement ones. Found out that crestless silkies exist. They're straight run. Better get 10 just in case...:gig
I wondered what happens if you loose just one from a hatchery. See there are sooo many I like but I got lucky (hubby got lucky) and 3 I picked pushed my delivery date WAY off so I cancelled them off my order. I have 5 silkie and of course most are looking like Cockerels, might have to do a delivery again!!

Sounds like a great opportunity ;)
I'm curious to hear what characteristics are making you think most of them are boys. I've read that silkies are extremely difficult to sex and you really can't tell until they start laying/crowing.

Is your TSC still getting chicks in? Ours stopped a while ago, but RK gets them in year round with the exception that you have to buy 6 minimum. Hmmmm 6 minimum  never thought about that!

Some have really prominent combs, like wide getting puffy. They are acting roosterish too. I'm going to hold off still give them chance to grow up a but, but mine are all whites and I don't want just white. (Color opportunity if I rehome a couple)
