Oh...the things you'll wish later you'd never discovered, LOL.

I started with 5 layers and 10 meat hens. Meaties got processed.

Now up to 51 chickens, 40 ducks, 3 turkeys, three geese.... I get an A in chicken Math.

Ok, let me see if I can do this.

I got 33 baby chicks from a hatchery and they died because I was really dumb. Then I had -33 chickens.

I got 33 more baby chicks from the same hatchery and 31 of them were killed in a dog attack. That's -33+-31=-64 + 2= -62 chickens

I got 30 battery leghorns, which brought me to -32 chickens

I got 5 red jungle fowl chicks and I am at -27 chickens

I got 32 from the hatchery last week.

-27+32= 5 chickens.

1 of the leghorns didn't come back to the coop Friday night and got eaten.

I have 4 chickens.

Pay no attention to the 10 dozen eggs in my fridge.

Did I get that right? Check my work!

I'm really bad at mathematics. I'm not gonna count my chickens any more. If anybody asks, I'll just say "A bunch." Besides, don't bantams count as half a chicken? I have a few scattered throughout the flock.

Plus, I have a slew of hatching eggs on order (auctions won) and you know you shouldn't count 'em before they hatch. Although, as I ruminate on that adage, I realize it's lots easier to count eggs than chickens, as the former generally stay still for the count.

13 chicks in two brooders, 7 eggs in the 'bator, a frightening number of eggs to incubate, soon to arrive from different sources, and "a bunch" of chickens.

That covers it.

Besides the sure knowledge that someday I'll be running a Home For Elderly Chickens, I'm currently unable to divest myself of extra roos. No fighting, so that's cool. They're just SO cute!

So we thought we would get a few chicks. I was thinking 3-4. Then hubby says how about six since some may not make it. ( We are new to this chicken thing.) We go to pick the 6 up and end up with 8. Then a friend has chicks and we may get 2 more. I have already asked about getting 2 chicks again in the spring. This is so much fun. I live in the city so moving out to the country may be in my future!!! If you think about it, chickens don't take up much space.
