Chicken pecked badly, need advice!

@KRack how is she eating?
She’s eating egg from a syringe and drinking also from a syringe. But she’s doing it! She seemed a little more “with it” this morning. So I’m letting her move at her own pace trusting she’ll get back to a better place soon!

That's great! When you say egg, is it raw yolk or both yolk and egg white? Are you sweetening her food a little? A little bit of maple syrup or raw honey.

It is raw and both yolk and white. She can’t seem to do solid food right now, but I’ve switched between sweetened water and regular water. I’ve been going about every hour or so to offer food and drink.

How long ago did she have chicken feed? Have you tried Exact Baby Bird Feed? Have you tried tube feeding? The Exact feed can be tube fed. Some people make little dough balls out of chicken feed and water, and put small pieces into the beak to swallow. You could mix a bit of egg or plain yogurt as well. She seems to not be getting enough nutrition this far along to heal.

This is day 2 of no chicken feed. I’ll do the chicken feed and water in to little balls and see how that goes. I’ll google exact baby bird feed, too.

I don’t know how to tube feed but have considered looking in to it. I’m not good at opening their mouths without a ton of flailing on their part so it makes me really nervous. 😬

The dough balls made of food and water were a great idea! Once we got in to a routine, it went pretty well!! There had to be some ground rules, like I’m allowed to touch her top beak but not her bottom beak…but once those were established she mostly let me put food in there for her to mash around and swallow! I’m covered in food and water because I didn’t figure out the ground rules fast enough, but it was worth it.

I cannot figure out why I can see her food move down her throat, and hear gurgling/clicking sounds. She’s fine eating and drinking until it’s all about to go down her throat and then she squirms and tries to get away. Once it’s down, she’s fine again.

How do I upload a video?
