Chicken pecked badly, need advice!

So from everything I’m reading, if you catch gapeworms early enough, the symptoms match this chickens symptoms. I stopped worming her, and she’s shaking her head more, scratching her throat more, struggling to breathe more, and eating less.

I also read ivermectin and fenbendazole won’t treat adult gapeworms, and that I need something called flubenvet or something like that. So, I think I’m going to buy some and try it. She’s not coughing, not sneezing, has no other signs that it’s actually respiratory. Just seems more like there’s something in there.

Anyone know what actually kills adult gapeworms?

@casportpony I’ve seen you discuss gapeworms on a few threads and thought I’d tag you to weigh in. When I was treating this hen for worms I used fenbendazole for 3 days. I stopped because the opinion on this tread seemed to be that it wasn’t gapeworms. But since stopping the fenbendazole, she’s gotten worse.

I’ve read fenbendazole doesn’t treat adult gapeworms, but I’m totally new to this. Will fenbendazole treat adult gapeworms?

How much were you giving? If you think she's getting worse, try again.

Gapeworm

I was giving her this, but cutting it in half because she’s only about 2.5 lbs

There is not enough fenbendazole in those.
I’m not good at math and honestly get really confused with doses. I’m trying to understand, but I struggle.
I can help with the math. At 2.5 pounds she needs 34 mg of fenbendazole per day for 5 consecutive days. Your pills only have 6.7 mg each, so you can give her 5 pills for 5 consecutive days or you can buy the liquid for goats and give 0.34 ml for 5 consecutive days.
Does fenbendazole treat adult gapeworms?
I've never read that it doesn't

Oh wow, ok. Thank you so much!! I’ll try this!

I'm not sure why they say that one pill can treat all of the worms. All of my literature & references say that much higher doses are needed, and that some worms, like gapes & capillary, need 5 days.
Yeah, that’s really good to know. Especially for people like me who really rely on instructions on the bottles. I really appreciate your help.
