Thanks so much for the update! Not bad for being shipped NY to CA!

Congratulations...I'm going to bed with a huge grin on my face. I'm thrilled.

Well, just when I thought I could work again with my cheapo bators...I flubbed up the humidity. Out of the 5 eggs in lockdown, only 1 made it.

A very sticky lil Lav Ameraucana x Welsummer (OE). Time to purchase that Brinsea incubator.

Awww.. Hey, I see you are selling more eggs. I'll have to get some from you one of these days but thankfully I have too many chicks.. I have promised those at work that I will have blue eggs for them someday!

If I can sell these off maybe I'll try another hatch. Loving my brinsea ecoglow so far for the little ones!

Let me know when you are ready...I have several EE eggs that go to waste every week.

And by waste I mean scrambled and fed back to the flock.

I will do that! Would love to incubate again, but I must be reasonable. LOL. Plus I have an all pullet order coming in march, but i think I may cancel that. Yes, you CAN have too many chickens. But I really want those turkens!

I will have exciting mutt eggs soon - saw my illegal roo 'doing the deed' the other day. Not sure yet if he'll be a good roo. How long does it take before you know if he's going to be a mean guy? So far he avoids me and the chicken he was having a fling with squawked a bit but didn't seem overly concerned.. LOL.

It amazes me that you have 26 acres and your roo is illegal!

Well, to be honest I haven't actually been told by anyone official that I can't have roosters, but my neighbors have already warned me against it. I AM in town limits, which means I think I have to comply with noise ordinances so they could get me on those grounds. However, I keep the coop closed until 10AM and there's almost no chance anyone near me can hear him crowing IN the coop. Heck, I can barely hear him while standing outside. I really don't want to peeve off the neighbors since they are nice people. Only reason I decided to keep a roo at all is I wanted a flock protector and not one person complained about the 17 guineas we had. They drove ME nuts, but no one else said a word. And lemme tell you, 17 guineas are LOUD. And loud ALL the time. But really cute, IMO.

featherz do people eat guineas? Or raise them for eggs? I'm not all that familiar with them. I find it funny that they are loud.

Some people eat guineas, but I had them for tick control (I'm a vegetarian anyways). They didn't seem all that interested in the ticks, they just loved to run around the yard hollering. You can find youtube videos of guinea calls - they are really funny, tho. Hatching them is pretty hilarious - they are like chicks on crack. They will literally RUN out of the egg and zoom around the incubator. They will try to jump out if you open it.

Just checked my town code. We may in fact be legal for roosters, although they could still get us on noise..

We are zoned R2, which allows agricultural animals if over 200,000 SF. And our town does have 'right to farm' laws.
