I just got a surprise...went to candle duck eggs before putting them into lockdown tonight (Day 25) and instead found that 9 have started pipping!

Best wishes for a successful hatch! I love my Silkies! I have a White Silkie Pullet and a Partridge Silkie Pullet, both just started laying. They get the most comments from strangers! "Ooooh, look at the Muppet chickens!"

I just got a tiny Black Silkie baby chick and a HUGE White Silkie Baby Chick, they are the same age, but nowhere near the same size!

I love my silkies! I have dwindled the Silkies down, but kept a few. They are just a hoot to have in the flock! Congrats on the duckling pips! Go duckies!

What kind are they?

My tiny little Black Silkie was dead on the bottom of the brooder.

I guess now I will HAVE to order some Silkies to replace it!

Hmm, I WONDER if anyone local to me wants any Silkies?

And of course your neighbor enabler wants Silkies!

So...I have a Black Tailed White Japanese hen (tiny little thing) that has been broody. She is in with another hen (Bantam Light Brahma) and 2 Polish roos. We've been taking the eggs out of the pen, but wanted the BTWJ to have the chance to hatch some chicks. The problem we have is that we did not separate her, so the little Brahma keeps supplying her with more eggs! Is it too late to put her in a separate pen with her clutch of eggs?

Can you mark her eggs and just remove the new added eggs every once in a while? I have had to do that once when my silkie momma would not sit on her eggs if I moved her. She insisted on being in the spot she started with. So I had to just remove the new eggs and let her keep her original ones. I haven't had good luck moving my broodies. They all freak out and leave the eggs.

e.t.a Almost forgot that I wanted to say congrats on the duckling pips!!! I hope they hatch soon so we can see pics!

This is what I'm afraid of. I want her to stay broody and raise her babies. Maybe I can find a temporary solution for the other three by putting them in a new pen. When the chicks hatch, will she just abandon the others that are a few days behind? This is my first broody that will be raising her own babies.

I'm so excited for her!

I sprung for a GFM but can't think of a title.. Hmm.. Anyone got any ideas? LOL.

Just put my two weekers out in my barn. They were outgrowing the brooder at warp speed! It's still a little chilly so I caved and will have a heat lamp + my two ecoglows at least at night although at the moment they don't even seem cold, just mad that they were displaced.

Already able to pick out a few little roos, including one sexed at McM that's definitely a boy. Bleh. I told the person who originally bought them to get credit once we can count up how many boys they gave us!

Now I can clean up that bedroom. Already peeking at egg auctions but I must be strong!!!!!

I have a broody on 4 eggs right now and I am hoping I can move her and the babies when they hatch. I tried moving her and the eggs once and she did freak out. So I left her where she is, but she is in with a bunch of teenager chickens so I really want to put her and the babies in a safe place. I think once they hatch it should be easier to move them all.
