Did it work out? I've had a LONG fat Wellie egg where the chick pipped and zipped very low in the shell. She couldn't squeeze out of the hole in the small end of the shell, so I had to break it apart to let her out. Keep us posted on how it's doing!

It is trying to zip. But it hasn't changed too much since last night. A 3rd AM egg pipped!

I hope they all hatch today b/c I'm leaving in the morning and won't be back until Sunday night late!! I'll miss the cute stage!!

I would have no problem helping it if you think it is necessary!

Welps Hatchery.... I ordered them before I found the others locally... and of course I couldn't wait until May to get chicks, I had to have some sooner.....so now I have to have a coop big enough to hold these.... glad they are still chicks. Wait till my husband sees how big I need it....I'll blame it on his ducks...

How many do you have pipped in there? I wouldn't open the lid if you have pips. Can you stick a hose through the vent? I have dribbled water in the general area of the water tray before through the vent with a straw and even if it gets a little on the eggs it makes its way to the tray. Put a towel under the bator in case of leaks. I always mess up and open with pips and then I have to help them all out! Ughhh. Totally your call. I am with Meagan on the helping of the one that pipped on wrong end. If you think it needs help and you have waited all you can, then you could try to do it.

3 are pipped. The one that pipped on the wrong end has pecked away more of the shell than the other 2 eggs, but hasn't made in progress since 9:00 this morning.

ETA: Mine is a Brinsea Mini Advanced, so there is no vent holes big enough to do anything like that. The humidity thing is in the middle of the 'bator so the only way to add water is to open the lid.

Ughhhh I hate judgement calls like this one. It is the stressful part of hatching.

I say if you are able to watch them give them more time before you open the lid. That is good that the wrong end one has chipped more shell. I feel for you, because I go crazy trying to make decisions like that. I have 9 days to wait on my batch that is in the bator and then I will be stressing too.

I just checked on the eggs again and the 4th egg has pipped. I saw the chick that pipped on the wrong end move, so I may leave it while longer and see.

I am finding we need to treat our Olive Eggers like Marans and keep the humidity lower, and/or sandpaper the air cell side. That color layer prevents air flow/humidity escaping from the shell, and I swear the OE and BCM chicks hatch "wetter" and gooier.
hmm.png
I had a LOT of late quitters in this last hatch...the OE's and Marans were the worst I've seen. From now on, I will only hatch OE's and Marans by themselves.

I ended up putting more water in the Brinsea.

I still see the wrong end chick moving..come'n babies!! Do you think I should help? It's been 2 1/2 hours since the last time I check and no changes? The egg that pipped first is starting to zip...
