Mrs. Fluffy Puffy: Keep us posted! I really really want to see a baby White Ameraucana. That is a color I want to get some day to add to my collection! I hope those little boogers hatch soon!

Well 3 hatched by themselves with no help from me. The little guy that pipped on the wrong end never made any progress so I took the shell off, but left him in the sack. I started to peal away the sack and I saw blood so I stopped for a full 6-8 hours. I just helped him out of his sack. His back end was sticking out so I went ahead and took the sack off. There was a bit of blood, but not near as much as there was. He is still breathing..so

that he makes it!

4/6 is not bad for shipped eggs!

When I post pics..don't expect solid white chicks!

These guys have smokey/black backs and yellow/white splotches!

I read that White Orpington chicks are a smokey/white color but turn white as they mature.

It wasn't the one I helped, it was one of the 1st ones that hatched. I guess one of the other chicks sat on it's head or who knows what?

It is in a much better place now..the big chicken coop in the skye.

R.I.P. Love you little one!

It is mind boggling when they just up and die like that.

I'm sorry for your loss. Hopefully the one you helped out makes a complete recovery. I'm always torn if I should help or not help hatch, or if I should open the bator to get the early hatchers out or not! The final day (s) of hatching are my nightmare!!

I am so glad to have found this thread. I wish there were meetings we could go to...LOL! My name is Kim and I am a hatchaholic. I know there is no cure, only the support and encouragement of other chicken lovers!!! If you are not great at chicken math, and have never tried hatching, DON'T DO IT!!! LOL!!

I am sorry for all the lost chicks. It is heartbreaking to know what to do. I am on lockdown right now with 12 silkie eggs. I cannot be home on their due date and sometimes that is easier than trying to decide if I need to help them. Good luck with all the hatches that are due this weekend!

My chicks are doing great.. All 38 of them! eeeep! I just made up a mini brooder area in my barn and they are going out there tomorrow along with their ecoglows. Barn has been > 50 and appears to be holding at a decent temp so these little ones need to go out out out.. !! The turkens are soo adorable - I'd like to keep at least one roo from those and hopefully I'll get at least a few hens as well. They have straight combs so should be able to tell soon I'd hope.

Had purchased another byc'ers overpurchase of chicks since I had some already and wanted to salt in a few girls, unfortunately both her and I are getting more boys than we'd like. The favorelle is feathering in black (boy), but I am holding out hope since I saw another byc'er post a hatchery 'salmon' favorelle pullet that was extremely dark with black feathering.. These were sexed as pullets, o well.

Oh, and the straight run cochin is probably a roo also - still barely any feathering at two weeks and he has that grumpy look about him.

No biggie, in about two weeks all the boys will be up on CL or at auction. Maybe I'll keep a few.

DH will probably start on my new coop next week. YAY.

Best wishes for a successful hatch! I love my Silkies! I have a White Silkie Pullet and a Partridge Silkie Pullet, both just started laying. They get the most comments from strangers! "Ooooh, look at the Muppet chickens!"

I just got a tiny Black Silkie baby chick and a HUGE White Silkie Baby Chick, they are the same age, but nowhere near the same size!

I love my silkies! I have dwindled the Silkies down, but kept a few. They are just a hoot to have in the flock!
