Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

I need a little help, 2/4 of my White AM eggs have pipped. One has pipped in the fat end, but the other has pipped in the pointy end...That's bad isn't it?

Is there anything I can do, other than sit on my hands?

Did it work out? I've had a LONG fat Wellie egg where the chick pipped and zipped very low in the shell. She couldn't squeeze out of the hole in the small end of the shell, so I had to break it apart to let her out. Keep us posted on how it's doing!

It is going to take me a little while to get the silkie gene going. If I breed him back to pure ams...I'll take those offspring and breed them back to dad (it always grosses me out typing that). Then we can take those offspring and get a better run on the Silkie feathering. I should just find myself a Silkie feathered hen!!! We are looking at possibly years for me to accomplish this. I need to be patient! And hope nothing happens to the roo!

I saw them on NoseyChicken's BYC page and just had to have eggs from her pair. Yes, I keep putting new orders in for eggs and I can't quiet seem to stop myself!

I've been researching Ameraucana color varietys and found I must have some Buffs ( LF and Bantam ) and some LF BBS and Silked Ameraucanas!

Oh, not to mention Brown Red, Silver and Splash Am Bantams!

Check with Chickenstalker (Karen)...she is breeding Buffs, I gave her my Buff Am hen. I had the silvers, they were pretty, but too flighty for me. I actually hatched a few silver chicks...and I hatched some buff am chicks. So stoopid as those were two colors I wanted to get rid of. Who am I kidding, I can't seem to say no to Ameraucanas! My friend Bailey gave me a Blue Split Silkied Am roo. I have black and blue am chicks in the brooder now that I hope to use to breed him with in a few months. The brown reds are not as common...I'd like to see more people get into breeding them.

Will do. I'm a bit broke at the moment since I bought 2 sportsman and tons of hatching eggs. But once my PP acount fills back up I check her out!

I really love the Brown Red Variety!

Hello, fellow addicts!

I have been up to some EXTREME naughtiness since I last posted!

I cannot pass a feed store without buying chicks, my latest broody, Simone, hatched out 4 Cuckoo Marans out of the 12 eggs given to her and so I HAD to buy a few chicks (10 is a few right, 7 from Murdoch's and 3 from Big R) to have Simone foster.

Simone is NOT a foster mama! After killing a Black Silkie, and pecking several of the other chicks, I took the 2 white Silkies, the 2 blue cochin bantams, the 2 partridge rock pullets and the white leghorn pullet over to my co-enabler's house, and picked up my 12 bantams at the same time that she had been fostering for me.

Then when I got home, I realized that Simone is a TERRIBLE mama, she was scratching and pecking the ground, ostensibly to find food, but was flinging her baby chicks when she was scratching and they were hitting the walls of the coop and running back under her and she would do it again!

SO I took ALL of the chicks away from her and put them in with the 12 bantam juveniles, then I thought, "hmm", so I went back over to my local co-addict's house with an empty box and a sad face

and picked up 1 white silkie and 1 blue cochin bantam, just to round things out, ya know!

Now, I have gone and done it! My geese were so much fun to watch grow up, but now at 2 months old, they are fully grown, so I thought, "hmm", so I have ordered 8 S/R Hatchery assorted geese to be delivered the week of May 4th! I am sure I will re-sell MOST of the geese, but HOPEFULLY I will get to keep a few of them!

Now, I have ALWAYS wanted the BIG BOX of poultry to be delivered to me, so I am thinking I may need to add 75 chicks to the goose order, so there could be a huge 100 box, ya know, the one with the 4 compartments, each the size of the 25 chick box?

It is trying to zip. But it hasn't changed too much since last night. A 3rd AM egg pipped!

I hope they all hatch today b/c I'm leaving in the morning and won't be back until Sunday night late!! I'll miss the cute stage!!

I have heard that they will hatch out ok. I have never had it happen to me personally, but I have read on other's hatches and it worked out in the end. I would say just keep an eye on it and see if it is able to zip on it's own.

I've been wondering what you've been up to!!!! I am in love with my geese.. you and Chandra have rubbed off on me. Simone's story is a wee bit funny...in a dark comedy kind of way. Flinging baby chicks, eh?

Poor babies. Good lord, man...what will you order to round out your box O' 100? I can't imagine a box of 100 chicks. That would be insane!!! Take pics!

I haven't ordered poultry from a hatchery in years! I've been hatching out most of mine. I have a friend and she must order new chicks every month...so jealous!

Hi my name is Yoie and I'm addicted to chickens, guineas, and now ducks! My husband asked me to join a support group for my addiction, can you all help me? It all started with my husband saying yes to 6 chickens in a coop in the backyard. That was just the start! I didn't want to pay alot for shipping so I went with Ideal so 6 chicks turned into 10 chicks, plus 10 packing peanut boys. When they arrived all but one was doing well, it soon passed and one had crossbeak. We sold 9 of the boys and gave away the crossbeak, that left us with 9 chicks. My daughters being upset about the boys leaving and one dying. So while at TSC getting food we picked up a few more, twice! We then had the 9 original plus 6 easter eggers and 6 red pullets. I had a friend take 4 of the easter eggers and 3 of the red pullets. That left us with 14! More than what my hubby wanted but still ok. Well then I got an email from Ideal saying my shipment was being sent out. I forgot about an order that I had played around with online, didn't even think it really went through! I now had the 14 plus 7 bantams and a guinea keet, that makes 21 chickens and a guinea keet. I put an ad in for some of the bantams, get only one reply from someone looking for pullets that will lay eggs. Knowing bantams weren't gonna do it I sell her 2 of my chickens from the first group, not any of the bantams. So now I'm down to 19 chickens and a guinea, ok still to many for my DH but better. Than I had a moment of weakness at TSC when getting more feed and pick up 2 ducklings. Now I have 19 chickens, 1 guinea and 2 ducks, oh and my DH thinks the guinea is a funny looking spotted chicken

(I call it a rare african purple spotted chicken). So am I addicted to poultry, or is it all in my head?
