Wow! You've jumped in head first!

What breeds do you have?

I won 2 Hatching egg Auctions this weekend...Lav/BBS Orpingtons (she's going to throw in a few Wheaten Marans, too), and pure Lav Orpingtons. I ordered Wheaten Marans from Cree Farm and Silkie/showgirls from Hat Trick. I am so off my rocker!

I am debating on buying a new incubator or trusting my friend to incubate for me. They have a big ol' bator and do this for a living. What to do, what to do.

Lavender Orpingtons are a lot of money! If you trust your friend's expertise, have them do it. If you won the auctions, you probably do not have time to get a new incubator, test it and get used to it before the eggs will need to go in.

I still have my cheapo LG styrofoam bators. Tell me if this makes any sense....what if I take some up to her, and try to hatch some on my own? Split it so there is a better chance for hatching...

That would work, then you are practically guaranteed to get some!

Like featherz said, I want to enjoy hatching them, but I need to get my money's worth out of them. Heaven forbid I give them to my friend and they all die! Maybe this will better the chances?

Or you can convince hubby you need a brinsea..

Yah, I know it wouldn't get here in time. Oh well. I like the idea of splitting them up. Does your friend have a better incubator?

She has a huge wooden incubator that was built 20 years ago. They hatch out several thousand every Jan/Feb. What I didn't tell you was last year they accidentally cooked an incubator full of eggs after the thermostat went haywire. It was the first time that had ever happened to them...in 30 years of raising/breeding/incubating chickens. That has been on my mind. They fixed the problem. It's bad enough if I lose the chicks, I think it would be worse if they lost all of my chicks.

featherz...the Brinsea is SOOO tempting. They are so expensive and I have a kitchen to remodel. I've sat at the computer just staring at the buy it now button....couldn't pull the trigger.
