Have you calibrated lately???? And don't forget to start each hatch with a fresh battery, it helps! And then on some thermometers (The Springfield kind - I just junk them on a regular basis...They just are not stable)....Yea, it shounds like it's a little low! Also, be sure to count the hour from the hatch, like if you put in at 8 pm go to 7:59 pm 21 days later... That helps me a lot because I usually set a hatch so late at night and get worried a bit to early.

You hit it right on the head...I put these chicks in late at night, so it has thrown me off a bit.

FINALLY! Most chicks have hatched...2 White Showgirls (one with a wicked top knot!), 2 Silkies, 3 White Orpingtons, 3 Chocolate Eggers (Welsummer x BCM), 1 Colossal Black EE, and a few more silkies and CE's to go.

With this hatch...I got my very first rotten egg!

Ack!! I am not looking forward to that. I candle just to be sure, but with the OE's I have in the bator now, I can't see into them even with my uber flashlight candler. what the heck is a 'colossal ee'? hahahhaha.

I am hoping before I have to get rid of him, that my cochin x roo will get down to business with my EE's (although he's twice their size, so I hope he doesn't hurt them!) so I can see what a blue/red fuzzball x brown ee looks like.

The rottie was a Welsummer. Couldn't see a darn thing when I candled. I popped a hole in the air sac....barf!

It was sooo nasty.

I am pretty sure this colossal black EE is from the Jersey Giant girl and Black Ameraucana roo. It just seems massive next to the others in the brooder.

Muggs - wow, I want to see a picture of your monster E.E.! I am so glad your hatch went well!

Gryeyes - any more news? Suspense!

I just ordered 5 Spitzhauben pullets, 7 polish S/R, 7 Phoenix S/R and 7 rare breed assorted pullets. I am totally addicted to chickens and it seems to be getting worse lol.

I needed a little pick me up since my hatches have been going so poorly!

Of course, minutes after I submitted the order, I looked in the incubator and PIP!

SO, I did the sensible adult thing and went to bed. I am nervous to go out there and look this morning. I really just want to go out there and find a whole bunch of happy, HEALTHY chicks cheerfully stomping the empty eggs.

Well I candled today (day 9) - tossed out three clears and a quitter. Can't see in most of the rest to be positive but 'cracky egg' is still going strong!

I have someone coming to pick up most of my NYD hatch chicks. I am keeping four - I am going to GUESS which ones are pullets and we'll see how good my guesses are at three weeks. Anyone wanna help me guess? ROFL.
