I would like to share some of my experiences with you of showing my chickens:
My first chickens were Cinnamon Queens. They were the most beautiful, wonderful chickens and I loved them. I got to my first 4-H poultry meeting and I was told that they were "Not a purebreed" and they could not be shown. That made me sad and I lost interest in my beautiful, wonderful Cinnamon Queens and I sold them.
Then I tried many different breeds and had mixed results. Buying expensive birds from breeders did not yield me show quality birds, I ended up with a bunch of expensive birds that died of some disease!
Then I found Ideal Poultry and ordered some Black Australorps. I won grand champion of our county fair and went on to get a grand champion at the state fair! I have pictures of a much younger me and the ribbons and trophies to prove it! Then at the state fair, someone took my Grand Champion pullet and replaced her with another ugly old Black Australorp! There is a picture of a very disgruntled 12-year-old me in front of the cage with my mom holding a trophy in front of me and me with a BIG frown on my face because my beloved 'Oscaretta' was gone!
Your 4 sex links are VERY pretty birds and your 2 little Easter Eggers are only going to get prettier and friendlier as time goes by! I would advise you to carefully consider the risks and stress of showing before you change birds. You know your hens are wonderful, why subject them to the judgment of others and possibly the risk of disease or theft at a poultry show.
Do you think that it's too hard for me to do? Or just not worth it?
