Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

Hi my name is Bobby and I AM a addict, It all started with the idea of getting a few chickens so I could have a few eggs and something to keep me busy,I am disabled, bad ticker...anyway. My DW said she didnt mind after a few weeks of begging so I converted a old shed into a coop and my Dad gave me 4 hens a one young roo. I put up a 10x10 run made from a dog pen. 3 months later I have 11 hens and 3 roos of standard size and 1 roo and 3 hens bantam size the run is 600 sq feet built anothe coop for the bantams. Then I kept reading about how great it is to hatch eggs ........well I built an incubator it holds 60 eggs.Went to see a lady I got 3 hens from and got 44 eggs to try to hatch, well I did ok I guess 28 little chicks came soon after and I built a brooder box and a grow out pen. My DW loves the chicks and has ok'ed the next batch to go in the incubator when the others go into the grow out pen ..I got it pretty bad ...what do I do lots of pics on my BYC page just dont know what to do .......... THANKS for letting me share

So how is this for good weather.....It is going to be a balmy 65 degrees today and blizzard conditions just down the road in the mountains. Only in Colorado.

I am anxiously awaiting some pullet eggs any day from my whole batch of 21 week olds. I am hoping the warm weather will kick them into laying.

Welcome Bobby Joe, And I thought I had it bad!

Don't let your DW find out how easy it is to sell chickens on Craigslist.

My DW sold most of my last hatch that way plus all of my Black Astralorps, left me with just 9 hens. Lot of support for us addicts here, but so far nobody has tried to get me to quit.

I am torn right now between buying some eggs to hatch or just experimenting with the birds I have. I'm also disabled so more time than energy, but I have a, 'getter done' attitude.

that it warms up enough that your 'Gals start laying. A bunch of my young pullets are starting to lay. One of my EE X Game pullets layed the cutest dark green egg that other day!! I already have 2 green eggs in my auction. They're gonna be cute babies!

So, I know this is probably bad to post on the addicts forum, but...

What we need around here is someone who wants to hatch, but does not have room for chickens.

Then those of us who are hatching impaired can have the eggs shipped to them, and they can ship us the chicks!!

I can't take the stress of incubating! I still haven't been able to cook and eat an egg since my bout of incubitis!

However, I have ALL the chickens I can handle for this year! I am well over 50, but an exact number escapes me, I think it is 57-ish...

Bobby Joe, I REALLY like the pallets/ packing case re-purposed into a bantam coop! I have an OEG Bantam rooster, 'Little Man' and his 3 hens that need a home of their own! I will be making something very similar to your coop, thank you for the inspiration!

Here is a picture of him with his girls, they were hogging the roost; right after I took this picture they filed into the cage on the left! They have outgrown the cage, but it was handy for raising them in, as they are about 1/3 the size of the other bantams!

I know its a terrible picture, it was taken with my camera on my phone lol

I like those OEGB you got there look like mine are they SDW I named my little guy TINY and the GIRLS . Glad the coop was a help to you. It was a on the fly design but was very easy to build. and they love it. They a have their on run so they dont have to compete with the big chickens. My DW likes these little ones too. I gonna get her over to the darkside ....just give me time and she will be turning eggs and buying them and ok maybe I got carried away .

I have NO idea what kind mine are, not even 100% sure they are OEGB, they came from Ideal poultry in a bantam assortment (only $.99 each!)!

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=409412&p=2 for their baby pics. The roo and one of the girls are the same breed, I think, because they looked identical until he started crowing at 3 weeks old! The other 2 girls MIGHT be BBR OEGB, they are patterned more like a brown leghorn.

I am not a purist, obviously!
