Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

The breeder I was looking at is only selling chicks. This Sunday is a show... I hope my mom will allow me to look for a good chicken there and maybe buy one

I hope there's a SQ Australorp hen... I'm gonna bring my Standard of Perfection to the show.

I love springtime at the feed store!!!

I came home from Murdoch's today with 10 ducklings (they aren't all for me) and 8 chicks! I shamelessly took ALL 10 of the remaining ducks out of the horse trough! 3 little black ducks, 3 blue-ish ducks and 4 smoky yellow ducks!

When I got home, I tucked the 2 EE chicks under my momma hen, they look identical to the other 2 she already hatched!

The other 6 BA chicks are for resale! Amazing how a $3 chick becomes a $10 "STARTED PULLET" in just 1 month!

I gotta get to sleep so I can get up early! Something about 32 bantams being delivered to the post office! Not all for me, not even HALF of them are mine! I love having a BYC friend/ co-addict/ ENABLER!

I've been a little under the weather the last few days. I actually drove right past TSC without stopping to look at the chicks.

Will be glad for some warm dry days.

SO excited!!! The ol' incubator is heating up, and the eggs are coming in the mail today or tomorrow!!! I'm NOT experienced in the showing area, but these chicks are going to be showbirds. So, how can I find their breed standards?

Maybe it will work better than the nicotine patch system I tried.....

But I don't want to give up my chicken addiction!!!! It's not harmful, it's actually quite useful as we have good, healthy eggs that are sold also, so this isn't as expensive as the nicotine addiction.

Yes there is one. It looks a lot like duct tape. It's applied tightly around your wallet and credit cards. By the time you peel it off, the urge usually passes.

I am thankful that since I have a ton of eggs in the bator and no brooder space I can pass right by the little ones at TSC. So far. Now if I have a crappy hatch, you never know.. my TSC had EE's and bo's the other day and I have to admit I was tempted, but I didn't do it!!

Just put the 'babies' (6 weeks old) outside. They've been acclimated to the 50F room upstairs for about a week, so they'll be fine in my barn until we can get that 'run in' coop built. Candled some of my eggs today - some of my turkens look like duds but at least a few are developing.. and I have some mutt eggs developing from my cochin roo and my EE's.

If anyone has an Ocean state job lots nearby, they have an awesome giant 'dog carrier' on sale for $40 - it sells for $70-100 online and it's huge, with nice small openings in the front and back cage grate so the chicks can't get out and my cats can't get in Now that I have the ecoglow, I can use this kind of thing for a brooder and HOPEFULLY cut down on the dust. plus it makes a good isolation/broody cage I bet.
