I sure don't miss my incubators!
I have one mama hen wandering around, entertaining us with her antics. Her 6 chicks (4 EEs she hatched and 2 EE pullets from Murdochs) constantly get under gates and through the fence and drive her crazy (er)!
My other broody, Simone, is due in 2 days! She remains very sweet, she has never pecked me when I offer her B.O.S.S. or water. She does swell up and make objectionable noises when anyone comes near her clutch. She is on 12 Cuckoo Maran eggs, which I am still torn on whether to keep or sell the chicks! I don't NEED ANY more chicks, but I WANT MORE!
Because I am a chicken addict and it amuses me to do so, I will now attempt to list all of my chickens from memory, AHEM-
Blondie - EE hen, regular layer, she lays a blue/ green two-tone egg!
Simone - Broody EE hen
Broody Mama - hatched 5 chicks, killed 1 (pecked its face off) and is fostering 2 more EE pullets
Broody Mama's sister, nameless, somewhat uninteresting Black mix of Silkie and Lav Ameraucana, but lays regularly!
2 BA Pullets, just started laying!
1 BA Roo, who is banished into the field away from the hens most of the time for the high crime of excessive hen-standing!
Little Man, Silver Duckwing OEGB and 1 matching pullet
2 BBR OEGB pullets, Frumpy and Jumpy (who recently went broody at 4 months old!)
1 White Silkie who Mom named "Queeny" and 1 Partridge Silkie that spends A LOT of time alone and/ or in nest boxes, but has a REALLY BIG COMB!
'Lavvy' - Splash bantam Wyandotte, lays regularly
'Grumpy' - a GORGEOUS bantam white Cochin, doesn't lay (yet) and WILL bite any human or chicken who comes too close!
Then the 8 week old Juveniles are in a separate pen:
'Silver' - a Lavender Ameraucana pullet that hatched here in January!
1 Lavender Ameraucana/ silkie mix
'Redbeak' - a NN and ? mix cockerel who has a feathered neck, currently my fav juvenile, he spent an hour perched on my hand last night!
'Spot' - a NN/ White Leghorn mix cockerel who is fully feathered and HUGE!
Ideal 236 - HUGE pullet that is supposed to be a Leghorn production strain, but has Delaware markings!
'Jersey' - predictably, a White Jersey Giant pullet
'Tiny' - a rumpless Araucana with a wonky leg that is permanently extended to the rear!
'Whiteface' - an EE/ polish mix who is not crested and just looks like a black EE with white face markings
2 Black Ameraucanas which are Lavender splits
3 Black Silkie/ Ameraucana mixes which are also Lavender splits
3 Spitzhauben Pullets
1 WCB Polish pullet!
2 Golden Laced Polish, I am hoping they are 1 pullet and 1 Cockerel!
1 Silver Phoenix Pullet (just my luck, the S/R longtailed assortment, 2/3 are pullets!)
1 BBR Cubalaya Pullet
1 Red-shouldered Yokohama, actually hoping this one is a boy!
1 Norwegian Jaerhorn pullet
1 Buff Leghorn (or Minorca) pullet
'Domino' - an Exchequer Leghorn pullet
1 Buff Brahma pullet
2 Barnevelder pullets
1 Golden Penciled Hamburg pullet
1 Partridge Chantecler pullet
1 Columbian patterned pullet, who seems too skinny to be a wyandotte, but might be?
WOW! That was more work than I thought! I know there is at least 1 or 2 more juveniles that I am forgetting, but I cannot remember it right now!
Oh, and 12 bantams stashed over at Daisychick's place!
3 Lavender (self blue) moderns
3 Lavender (self blue) OEGB
3 Lavender (self blue) Cochins
2 Black Frizzle Cochins
and hopefully 1 OEGB BBR Roo!
And don't forget the 2 Roman Tufted Geese, 'Homer' and 'Honey', who think they are chickens, because they live in the chicken coop!
