Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

I've been kinda busy of late, too. Three weeks doing Inventory at the Warehouse (not gonna go into detail on that, but just imagine oh, maybe, Los Angeles Police Department having to count every single radio PART and light bar and siren in the entire department and reconcile the list.... it was something like that), then Easter Sunday I looked at a house up in the Sierra Foothills and made an offer on it, and TODAY the OFFER WAS ACCEPTED!!!!

Plus I set 90 eggs for the Easter Hatch, culled 30 eggs at lockdown, and Saturday they started hatching. Even had two chicks hatch overnight and I took them out of the incubator(s) when I got home from class today.

All this week I've been in an accelerated training course on telecommunications networks and my brain hurts.

Just finished signing all the paperwork to establish the official contract of sale. Didn't spill any Diet Pepsi on any of the 29 pages, so that's pretty good!

Wanna know what the BEST thing is about buying a little, foreclosed house on just under two-thirds of an acre? I can keep DUCKS! I have 3 call ducks I hatched currently living in their grow out pen, and 3 Cayuga ducklings I bought at the feed store hidden in my bathroom in a brooder. So if my landlady goes ballistic about it, I'll just move sooner than I had been planning to move.

The house is move-in ready, except for needing an oven range, washer and dryer. I want to move kinda gradually, because I rent a house only 7 miles from work. The house I'm buying is 52 miles from work. I have an approved annual vacation in October.... and I do want to return the property I'm renting to as close to its original condition - maybe improved a bit - before I am no longer here.

So. That's what's been going on. Here's a link to the post with all the photos of the house I'm buying: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=489076

It's my splash BLRW and she's only 8 months old. We'll see if she sticks with it, but she's determined so far. I'll put a few eggs under her tonight if she's still there and keep an incubator handy if she gets off them too soon.

Linda: I went and looked at all your new house pictures! That place is beautiful! The yard is just perfect. You could do all sorts of things with that garage for a coop too! Love it!

Good for you! I will be shutting down the 380 at the end of May. Once my lavs start laying again, I need to do one hatch for myself for next year's breeding program. The lavs haven't given me an egg since March! Then, I will be DONE!

I am ready to butcher my own roos now. Here is my question. Should we put the roos we know we are going to eat on a different diet? Like a grower feed??? To make them a little more meaty?
