Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

OK, so off to the feed store I go to get my replacement Brahma's. I walked out of there empty handed. I just couldn't buy any chicks form this person. My first instinct was to buy them all. Each cage had at least 1 dead chick in it and if that wasn't bad enough each cage had chickens with big bald patches, sores and chicks that had been pecked. Some people will say, they're just chickens but I just couldn't make myself purchase any from them. Am I just being overly paranoid?????

Mama always said "go with your gut" and if your gut was telling you adding chickens from that stock was a bad idea then you did a good thing by walking away empty handed. Soon the best replacements will show up. I know that's what happened to me when things weren't going well.

Thank you for all the nice comments.

I know, I know!! I got 1 Buff Orpington hen, around 4 Cuckoo Maran x Domique hens ( some have Rose combs and then 1-2 have single combs ). Then 3 SLW and 1 GLW x BSL hen...although in the ad he said they were ALL purebreds!

Oh, well. They're just to replace my older layers.

Have a Blessed Day!

Ok group, I'm thinking of getting some more breeds of chickens maybe Ornamentals. Its a tough descision, one of them will be of the Polish Crested type but the others are still a toss up.

So let the ideas commence.

Harbor Freight is having a sale on surveillance cameras right now. The one I'm getting is only $35 and it has night vision. Just hook it up to a monitor or your computer and catch the thief bare faced. I would want to know who is doing it, then I'd decide what to do about them.

We may just get one of these! Thanks for the heads up!

I need the rain to stop! Normally I like rain, but this is putting a cramp in my style.

Have to get the garden fenced and planted, finish the big run-in coop, mow the lawn, etc. I have 20+ chicks in my barn that need to go to their new coop. Bah humbug.

On the positive side, my broody should hatch this thursday or so, but if not I have BO eggs for her to hatch next week.

I'm off for the summer (since I work at a school) and already eyeing the hatchery websites, but I must restrain myself. Need to rehome more roos soom (or take to auction) and if I get any more chickens I'll end up on some hoarding show.

I'm thankful we at least get a break in the rain this weekend...our 10 day forecast called for 10 days straight of rain...now it looks like Sunday and Monday will be sunny. Woot!!!
