Chicken skin problem

That looks like a yeast infection...A Vet will need to be seen..

I'm not opposed to taking her to a vet, however the last chicken I took cost $150 and then I still had to euthanize her. I feel like I wasted my money and dragged out her suffering. That was just a few weeks ago so I have a bad taste in my mouth about that, as far as I know it's the only vet around that sees chickens. Don't want to pour money down the drain if they are just going to tell me something I can do on my own. Or if it's hopeless. Sounds horrible but those are my honest thoughts.

Anyway I took more pictures, still not sure if any of them are clear. I also took a picture of the vitamins and medicines I have on hand. I also have corrid, electrolytes, and probiotics, but those don't seem applicable here.

Hmmm?..Look up yeast infections in Birds..Possible treatment handy..Culling sick Chickens is what I do. I don't waste money on them..Sorry..I might sound harsh too?

Yeast equals fungus. I agree with the treatment Azygous recommended and vitamins that Wyorp Rock recommended. Betadine in water can help with fungus, but I would keep with the baths and application of coconut oil. Antifungal creams such as Lotrimin (clotrimazole) or Monistat 7 (miconazole) might help, but keep away from eyes. She is a cutie. Is she a bantam golden campine or buttercup?

In my days in hospitals we used water plus a surgical betadine scrub brush on cradle cap, then coated with vaseline. It took a day or two to get rid of it. Many mothers were afraid of washing newborns’ heads too hard due to soft spots, so cradle cap occurred.

No, not harsh. I like my chickens and want to care for them well and ethically, but they aren't pets like my dog.

She is a bantam golden campine. They seem to be very rare! I hatched her from eggs I got from ebay. She and her sister are very cute and friendly. Those are some great suggestions to try. Thanks! I didn't realize yeast and fungus are the same. I think the nasty cold weather has just worn her immune system down.

No, not harsh. I like my chickens and want to care for them well and ethically, but they aren't pets like my dog.

Yes....I don't like culling mine when needed but do it when needed so the spread of things don't happen...I like my Chickens..Although, chickens they are...

I'm thinking about what may have led to her getting this fungal infection. Her system must have some sort of imbalance. Besides the B vitamins suggested by @Wyorp Rock, I would give her an acidophilus tablet each day, and maybe consider fermenting her feed. Or else the infection may recur if her system remains out of balance.

By the way, yeast is in the larger fungus family, just as marigolds are in the Daisy family.
