Chicken with swollen bottom

Update: we had a vet come out to look at our chicken and it turns out she just had an injury to her bottom that had swollen a lot! The swelling will go done within a couple of weeks. We are so thankful that it wasn’t anything more serious. Thank you all so much for your input and responses!

With the swelling noted in the picture of her bottom hanging so low, I would suspect that she has ascites or egg yolk peritonitis. I have a hen just like this now, and had 2 others in the past. Was your vet familiar with chickens?

Yes he was. I was not there when he did the examination. We will have to see if the swelling goes down within the time frame he suggested, if not we will have to rethink this. Thanks!
