Chickens carry tons of diseases... (CPS alert!)

So sorry you are going through this. I can't believe they had a problem with your bathroom.

Good lord, I would be in big trouble if they ever came to my house. We aren't hoarders or anything but housework is not on the top of anyone's list around here so I made it a little lower on mine.

God, I feel for you. I have a daughter that has Aspergers syndrome. She is 26 now and has just moved out of the house to her own apartment. She will be fine. People see a child with problems and assume it is something the parent(s) did wrong. My daughter has sort of grown out of, or adapted to, her differences. There were times that were of great challenge however.
You mentioned that you are heavy. As I'm sure you know, it seems fine to prejudge heavy people as less smart and less capable. It is sort of an approved prejudice. You will get through all of this and the reward will be sweet. Your chickens look great!

These stories are frightening

I want to be a foster mother someday and own chickens, ducks, goats, ect. But I don't want some outside agency trying to control my life! But I don't want to choose between human babies and animal babies! I want them both and for both to enjoy each other! Our society sucks

I'm sorry you are going through this...I don't get why they're getting all up and arms about a few chickens when there are children being abused and neglected all over the place! Maybe they think the "normal" people with the most minor 'infractions" are easier to pick on and it gives them a feeling of power without having a dirty fight with the real hardcore abusers and sickos out there.

I'm so happy to hear this! I really have high hopes for my daughter. Some days I have to do pretty much everything for her. Everything from picking out her clothes, helping her put them on, helping her with her hair, teeth, etc etc. Other days she's on top of it. We've been working on life skills slowly for some time now. Just introducing things as fun. I've shown her how to make grocery lists, how to cook simple meals, how to cut with a knife properly. She has a routine and schedule and she does well. Every once in awhile when there is a lot of stress introduced she regresses a great deal. We haven't had any major melt downs since her dad had to go back to Alaska after his Christmas visit. For about 3 days she was kicking and screaming off and on and rocking on the floor mumbling. That is always rough. That is why I get counseling. It's really hard when things are like that. It's less often than it was when she was younger but it still takes a toll on me to be so calm and patient through all that. My insides are so upset and just want to scream with her because it gets so frustrating. I have to maintain a calm and peaceful expression and tone and if she comes out or is acting out or lashing out at me I have to be calm and confine her back to her room until she is safely settled. That is what a lot of people don't get. They see my super sweet kid that is so neat and smart. She is that person. She just also happens to have this 'disability' that gives her some trouble dealing with emotions and social skills.

I was told she may never be able to fully live on her own and may always require a roommate or someone around like myself. I'm ok with that but I doubt that to be the case. I'm pretty confident in her.

Yup I'm overweight. I've always been a big gal since I was itty bitty but after my daughter was born I developed a thyroid condition and PCOS from hormonal imbalances. It went undiagnosed for several years. It was only when I finally found the right doctor to help me that we started figuring it out together. Lost 45 lbs since November and still losing. Haven't done a weigh in in a month but probably lost another 5-10. I know people treat me like I'm an idiot sometimes because of my weight, or because I'm female, or because I don't have a pearly straight smile. I'm saving up for my own braces because my parents couldn't afford them when I was a child. I've paid for all my dental to get my teeth orthodontist ready and I just need to keep putting away for my straight smile fund. Just because I'm hefty and I have a crooked smile doesn't make me inferior. I hate that people treat me that way at times. For the most part people don't.

I did tell the officers to stop patronizing me with his comments that I felt were belittling. They didn't like that much.

the reason why the cops go for you instead of someone with major issues(drugs, violence etc. etc.) is just that. Druggies will fight and shoot at them, cops pick someone who is easy pickings. They know they aren't gonna get hurt harassing you. Boy does that make them feel powerful.

I just can't believe those idiots, what kid doesn't have a mess around,, or what adults for example? I have a clean place but it is cluttered. Sometimes I change jeans, shirts, etc. a few times a day, and they are in a pile till I sort things out before bed. When I go out shopping, I wear nice stuff, when I come home and work in the basement or outside, I put on old frumpy duds so I don't ruin the good stuff. Geez, what if someone catches me wearing faded, frayed work clothes.

I used to whelp puppies in the bathroom and sometimes cut umbilical cords with one hand, and eat a sandwich with the other. I wouldn't leave in the middle of one being born. Imagine the diseases I could have caught but, didn't.

Who knows if the police weren't drinking also and thinking they'd boss you around just for fun. I thought cops had to go thru psychological testing before they were hired. Seems like they hire the ones that flunked.

My friend witch chickens here is a law student. She's aspiring to be a lawyer herself. She told me a lot of the time people like me get picked on simply because we don't fully know or understand our rights. We respect and trust the police to care for our well-being. We're raised up for people in authority to be just. We believe that to be the case. We never had a reason not to expect the police or others in authority to be that knight in shining armor there to protect us. She said because of that trust we have for them we get taken advantage of. She said a lot of people in these fields just get burnt out. They start thinking everyone IS a bad guy and you are until proven otherwise. I wish innocent until proven guilty was really the truth, but it doesn't feel that way. I have lost a lot of respect for the sheriff and police officers as well as CPS.

I think I will go along with the play it nice and sweet and let them hang themselves bit. Obviously trying to win by showing them my higher intellect isn't working. They believe they are in the right, I am in the wrong, and that's that. So let's let them dig their own ditch with their 'facts' In the mean time I'm going to be collecting my information and will contact the U of I extension office to find out if there is anyone or group that I could call for some help in educating Health and Welfare. With so many more families bringing home pet chickens this is something that needs to be addressed.

x2 I agree with you 100%

I don't know if this means anything at all but most of the students that I met in criminal justice at school were those that had issues with the law in their past. Nothing that would exempt them from service, but stuff that I sure never did.

Also, I want you all to understand that this isn't just a venting session for me. This is about awareness. This is about getting your communities aware. Not just about CPS or things like that. That is always going on. But also about our animals. People need to be educated. For all the media hype that is out there and entertainment that gives false or exaggerated information, we need to be providing twice the amount of truth. Really. I can't tell you how many people I've had to explain the parts of an egg too. They all thought my chickens were being cannibals and that I was gross for giving them eggs! I had to explain about it being chicken food and give an example as to comparison for humans. People are really just so ignorant about things and a lot of the time have no desire to learn on their own. I've met people afraid to eat FRESH eggs. I've told them what happens with their store bought factory eggs and what happens with a fresh egg. It's just crazy.

@MeowCluckBark,

Upon closer inspection and further reflection . . .

. . . please forward me your address, telephone number, any and all license numbers along with your weight (someone wisely noted that your weight could be a sign of your abuse/neglect of the wee ones) . . .

. . . because . . . the VACUUM! Yep! You're not going to fool me with that trick of putting the evidence of abuse/neglect/imminent harm right in front of my face without ME seeing it!

Vacuums are much deadlier than chickens! They carry not only disease, and pests (fleas, mites, lice) but dust and dander, and household poisons, and evidential hair samples, and objects of murder/suicide (legos and marbles and a, a, a, -- I can hardly speak it -- a cord!) Worse, it can all be electrified and it is even more sinister/pre-meditated because it is inherently designed to make a "cover noise" during the commission of the crimes!

QUICK! SOMEONE CALL THE VACUUM POLICE AND REPORT THAT VACUUM TO CPS!

*hides all my vacuums in the neighbor's barn, calls CPS on them before they can report me for possessing a disease-carrying vacuum*

*calls my legislator to encourage legislation to make it a felony to own a disease-carrying, abuse-incurring/inciting vacuum while also "owning" a child or vulnerable adult*
