That is exactly what we said to them! that if their dogs ever came onto our property again, we would shoot them.I really love dogs and this was hard to say, but its ok to kill something if it is dangerous and it has killed something else.it has no right to kill anything. We havent seen the dogs again, and hope not to.

they often escape, and when they do, they are terrors. Goats, bunnies, cats, and other pets have been killed by them, but in NZ, the neighbours dont bother to do anything. I cant just go call the law with no proof. Ill ask the neighbours what they think, and get a camera.

these dogs are getting out of control, with 12 pups born last week, we can hear the barking 300m away. Thats the main problem too. The barking has been really loud, and there have been several complaints.

Around here the barking is also reportable to the Sheriff's dept or animal control, it violates most county or city/municipal nuisance ordinances, I have been dealing with this issue as well. I video tape the nuisances with my sony handycam so I have proof that I am not making false claims if the barking stops by the time the deputies decide to come investigate, also I can sue the neighbor for an injunction against the nuisance which is often the only way to put a stop to it as the Sheriff or animal control often acts like nuisance calls are beneath them and refuse to take action against the offender.

I would say you definitely can call the law without proof, your word as a witness is proof and other neighbors experiences are proof as well, pictures help a ton but if a bunch of people agree to these claims the law isn't going to call you a liar, dead animals are also good proof.

I keep a watchful eye when Im around the chicken coop, and can see the dogs in the paddock on the other side of the fence ( neighbours property) But for now there have been no more escapes.

We will ask the neighbours if they see any wandering dogs around the property.
Our neighbour is called Jim and his wife is Jill.
Jill has 2 compainion dogs, which were previously hunting dogs.Sadly, Jim ran over 1 of Jills dogs yesterday... the one that DIDNT bark.

Best rule of thumb when dealing with rogue dogs...SSS!

Don't think I won't - the first time, I'll go to the neighbor and warn them up front that if anymore of my flock dies by their dog's actions, the second time, they'll be burying their pet. I don't care how much they paid for them or how long they've had them. Who's to say one pet is more valuable than another's pet?

You'll have to have evidence in order to bring a lawsuit. A neighboring farm just went through this with a foal that was run into fence and broke 3 legs and had to be put down - it was a registered TN Walking horse. They luckily had night-vision game cameras on their barn doors to monitor for thieves that had previously broken into the barn to steal tack and copper wiring, and the cameras caught the 3 blue heelers going into the barn and running the foal out. All 3 of the blue heelers have the same collar on - reflective silver - and that neighbor tried to deny they were his dogs until the judge asked what kind of collars the dogs wore. The dogs' owner had to pay $2000 for the foal that was killed due to his dogs' behavior, AND ordered to fix the holes his dogs dug to get into the pasture. He was also cautioned that if his dogs' actions came before that judge again, he'd order all of them put down and hold him accountable for not owning anymore dogs that he couldn't control for 5 years.

If it hadn't been for those cameras, the family would have been out over $2000 on the foal that was lost, as they breed them for their income.

Bad pet owners should be held accountable, period. If they won't handle their animals, then a .22 will.

How terrible.. I have always believed the worse predator is the neighbors dog. A good fence will help, got to do everything you can to fight back. Love fences...

Always make sure you get rid of the evidence ! It will avoid allot of problems later on...

If you don't want to kill them get you a BB gun and fire away. Also I think its called Buck shot( I could be very wrong) but it goes in a 22 you aim shoot and he doesn't kill. Now I have been having this problem myself. Only I have had 2 German shepherds that are as big as me. And well I aim to kill. They bite and I'm not getting bit or my kids or my animals!

Buckshot is fired from a shotgun and will kill most anything quite handily. You are referring to 22 birdshot shells, which are completely useless in killing anything larger than a mouse. The only problem is with that 22 birdshot the dog would have to be awfully close to get hit, with that you possibly run the risk of putting out an eye or something like that as it spreads out and flies all over, I wouldn't want to do that kind of damage to a dog, I'd rather kill it.

its not bird shot. It spreads when you fire. It peppers them.
