CHICKENSTOCK 2008

This is starting to slowly shape into something, I think.

I still have not heard back from Mr. Anderson at the APA. Hopefully that is because he is interested and having to discuss the matter with the other directors and decision making people. I'll let you all know what I find out.

So this event would be more or less like a horse show/calling only with chickens? I know I personally would not transport chickens across country...but others might want to showcase their birds. How could we accomodate them and homeland security too? I flew last month and its not pleasant! Those bringing chickens would have to drive or ship them ahead. We also need to worry that some hatcheries/feed companies are SUPER vigilant with contamination. My friend who works for Hubbards cannot even come to my house for dinner!
Ok...here is what I've come up with all the posts that we need to accomplish in the ways of planning. Any additions?

Location - I like Texas in the WINTER! PLUS we could invite Texas A&M...love them Aggies!
Time
Invitations sent to list below:
APA
Feed Distrubutors
Breeders Clubs
Media - list to be determined
4H groups?
University Agriculture Groups? Maybe have a section on how to get a JOB with your chicken addiction!

At the show...we could have 5 main catergories
Feeding
Showing
Breeding
Hatching
The COOP
And we've got to set up a KIDS area!

This is FUN!

I don't think most people will want to bring their chickens but if we had it near an area where there were places to visit and see a lot of chickens would be nice. Ideal Hatchery is in Texas and I am sure they have breeder farms all around the area where they are located. Not sure if they would let groups in though due to bio security.
Oklahoma State University has a very notable Poultry program as does Texas A&M.
As for me I am more interested in meeting people, discussing various elements of our hobby and hearing and learning about related chicken topics. I doubt I would bring any of my chcikens.

Ok...Just kidding! But maybe we could have something where the moderators are showcased in some way! It sure would be nice to put a face to some of those avatars!
Also...would we allow BYC Forum members use of 'table' rentals; because I see many here who have their own business! I'm sure that woul dbe much appreciated!

Pretty exciting!!!

I really think it should be at a state / large county fair. One that alreay has livestock & animals.

I wouldn't bring any chickens and doubt many others would either, but I'm sure they could if they wanted to.

If this pans out we should get TONS of shirts printed for everyone of us to wear. With good volume and some sponsors we could probably do this for free or cheep.

Also, I could do another run of bumper stickers to bring.

If we do this at a fair (filled with people who aren't chicken lovers) we could pass out some pamphlets with info about raising chickens and info to visit BYC and become a member of our great community!

Could we poll the whole forum with the question:
Where should we have the National Chickenstock 2008?

A. Texas
B. California
C. Kansas
D. Hawaii

Does someone have the power to script this into the website?

If everyone simply added thier location to the "from" in their profile I could run a report. If you don't want to put a city / county, town, etc. you can put your state.

(edited to add: I read your post wrong, sorry.)
