Chickenstock in West Gardiner, Maine Oct. 12

I am coming to support local chicken lovers, as usual, nothing to sell here.

I was going to bring some cochin bantams, maybe 20 or so. Mostly they will be millie fleur crosses from my pet project, though I might bring some mottled if I can't sell them all at Windsor. I also have a pair of beautiful, and I mean beautiful, white silkies and one splash large fowl cochin chick (cockerel).

Pfft Maine is WAY better than Connecticut. Connecticut smells funny, and they aren't as nice as we are. Come to *Maine* gypsy.

I am going to be talking to someone at the Augusta, Maine newspaper as well trying to get a free ad the day before and the day of.....

:flWhat do you folks do when you hatch chicks

late in the year? Do you keep a heated hen house?

melilem, you are true devil. The giant cochin just made me melt. I have seen frozenfeathers giants, then those up to Farmington Fair and they are one bird that I would just adore.

If someone or you melilem, would this roo get after the little girls (bantams) and if I had a Bantam roo, would they get grumpy with each other?

You go mmajw! I did leave a note at the Farmington Fairgrounds for the poultry fanciers club for the chickenstock. Now what hours? I left my number if anyone had questions, also I said that I believed the hours would be 10-2... Either way, hope I was right on that time.

Take care all and see you soon!

All the signs that I have printed say 9-1 only because that is what we did for a time last time.

I keep two 100 watt heat lamps in the brooder pen. I used to keep one lamp until one day I came home from work to find it had burnt out and half my turkey chicks had chilled and died.

Now I always keep two lamps on for babies- I highly recommend it. When they get older, I replace the bulbs with 60 watts. My brooder pen is large enough that the babies can get away from the heat if it's too warm. This has worked for me even when the snow's flying. I have a newly built chicken coop that's draft free and can be closed up tight. I don't know if i could get away with it if i had them in the barn.
