Hot2Pot, I am an early bird because I am obsessed!
I get so eggcited that I want to see them everyday. (I try not to, but it is so hard!!) I love those little miracles growing right there in my house. It is so amazing how much they grow and change everyday!
I see I am not the only one who is excited by candling the babies. I see several other's candled last night also.
Glad everyone else's eggs are looking good!
Melissa Rose, I wouldn't have been candling yesterday if I had peeps hatching, like you do!
But I haven't had babies since June, so I am a bit over excited. Congratulations on the new babies!!
I am also dealing with new roos, and I lost a roo a couple of weeks ago to a dog attack, so I don't have a good hen to rooster ratio in my layer flock right now. I was sure all my eggs wouldn't be fertile. I will need a new rooster for my main layer flock, but I am waiting a until closer to spring to try and get one. Half the bantam cochin eggs had been in the fridge. We lost my daughter's favorite cochin pullet this week, so we are hatching all of her eggs. I am happy to say that one from the fridge is definitely growing, it had good veins.
The other refridgerated egg is the porous one I can't tell about yet. I only put the LF eggs in to try and ensure I wouldn't have a lone chick hatch. I don't have any outdoor heat sources, I will be raising all these babies inside until about March, and last year it was such a mess having them indoors so long. I am going to try a few different types of bedding this time to see if I can cut down on the dust and odor. I had planned on waiting until about Feb to start hatching again ( but I was having peep withdrawls). It will be fun to have just a few, especially if they are bantams.
My daughter wants to brood them in her bedroom, I may try a heating pad for warmth this time and let her try it. We have time to figure all that out. Well I gotta get off here and go write an essay for class, it's finals week in college. Yuck!
