Day 7, candled early, just a few to see. Had to peek at a few! I want to wait until day 10 to clean out the clear ones. The ones I looked at are looking good.
i'm candling tonight!! have to wait til sundown cuz i'll be in the kitchen, thats where the bator is. i was going to drag them into the bathroom, the darkest room in the house, but dont want to move them around too much. how do you make the sun set faster??!!
we're making a big production of it, some friends are coming over for dinner and we are all going to stare at the incubator and think up great names for the ones that hatch.
Melissa Rose tagged me on the thread I started and invited me to join in with everyone here. I will be hatching in between Christmas and New Years. I set my eggs on Dec 6th, so I should be due to hatch on the 27th. I set 4 partridge bantam cochin eggs, and one pure BBS Ameraucana egg, and four barnyard mixes. I have no idea how many of the eggs are fertile, this wasn't a planned or scheduled hatch.
I did candle my eggs today (day 3) I have 3 cochin eggs looking good, and one I couldn't tell, the shell was more porous, I can't tell yet with the Ameraucana egg, blue eggs are hard to see through, and I think 3 of the other four are blanks. I will candle again in a few more days before I toss all the clears.
I just candled a few at random, just to get excited about the veining. Will do a more intensive candling in 3 days, I have to run an extension cord to get my hi-powered candler to reach the top of my entertainment center where the incubator(s) are. I got some RIR eggs from What Ya Got Swap, and tossed in a few of my own eggs to see how my roos are doing. We have all new boys in each run, and all of my brown eggs are showing veining. I can't see the green ones with the little light I used, will have to wait a few more days
so, we candled tonight. my friends were just as excited as i was, and the kids all wanted to shine lights on the eggs, that was hard. i almost had to bite my tongue to stop from shouting to put my babies down. but my bff did it for me. it was only day 6 so i wasnt doing a thorough inspection. i did pull 3 that for sure were not fertilized, and i opened them to prove it to myself. then got to teach the kids a lesson about fertile vs non fertile eggs and what it would have looked like if it were in fact growing a chick. it was so much fun, i want to do it again tomorrow!! but will wait til day 10 or 11, i dont want to bother them too much.
i can very easily see how people become hatchaholics. this is a very crazy game we play!
