Chicks keep dying

The bin being used for the brooder is a little small too. The brooder should be big enough to create a gradient of temperature from 70 to 85. The chicks will run around the whole bin and then come to the warm spot to get warm again,

Put the heat on one side of the bin, that'll give you a much larger area for cooler temps on the other side.

If you're worried they'll be too cold, I raise 2-3 day old chicks outdoors down in mid 60s (daytime) with just a heating pad as the warm area. Even at that age they will spend 50% of the time away from heat without issue.

Using a radiant heating bulb in a metal bin will cause the surface to be extremely hot. Use a lower wattage bulb like a 100 incandescent bulb instead.

The 4 that are left are all fine. We check on them every few hours. We changed them into a bigger set up. We still aren’t really sure what happened.

I feel the sides every so often to make sure it isn’t hot. So far it’s been a tad bit warm but nowhere near hot. I check on them every few hours.
