Wow!! How exciting. That's a lot of chicks! How big is your brooder and where will they be? I plan on having them in the house 2weeks then garage til it's nice out to go in coop. Right now I have a box that is 2 1/2 X 4 1/2 that should be good for a week or 2 then getting giant boxes from Costco and taping two together. They are about 4x4 each. And I have baby gates to lay on top. My DH offered to build something but he's still building the run and there's so much to do yet I don't want him to get distracted!

They are going to be in my bedroom with me. My mom moved in with my grandma and gave my brother and I the trailer. I got the big bedroom in the deal. Well.. The big bedroom just happens to have a big garden tub. Much more space than I had for last years chicks. I set it up as a brooder and this is it! -


It really works out well because the cold water to it isn't hooked up. Hasn't been used in years, so it works out perfect!
After the brooding stage, I have a big wooden shed outside that is perfect for the chickens. I'm going to be adding perches and nesting boxes. one wall already has the 'escape hatch' cut out to lead into the pen. Just gotta throw the lock on it and it's all ready

They made it!!!!!

Got the call at 6:22 from the post office. Opened the box and no casualties yet! They didn't take long to spring to life and attack the food and water. One Silkie is really sleepy.. I dipped his/her beak into the electrolyte water a few times.. we'll see how the little fella does.
I have 9 chicks with poofy heads. I'm guessing some type of polish. I wouldn't have put polish chickens into my order had I been more specifiic (I'm an egg person. Polish are fair layers of small eggs [Didn't think I would get fair layers in a pack all about eggs]) I love them already so that is all that matters.
Maybe some help figuring these guys out? I know there is 1 EE and 1 SLW in here somewhere!

Yay for you!

I just got some from Tractor Supply yesterday!One Dark Brahma wakes up every time I walk to the brooder,then runs all over his friends till they all wake up and start peeping their heads off again.

And then the Brahma just stares up at me and cocks his head.It's really quite hilarious.
