China disgusts me

That articule just points out one place of animals cruelity in China. They are the ones that also are raising dogs and cats in confined arees for fur. I will not provide a link to the info I found as it is very very disturbing. I would love to boycott China, if possible. SOmeone above me pointed out that this is similar to the Romans, remember the Roman empire DID fall, I'm just crossing my fingers.

Perhaps you are right. I had posted it because of it's mention of chickens. I am sorry if I have offended anyone.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule - my heart breaks for those people in China who love animals. Let's hope they can work to change things for the better in their country.

I promise I won't post any more sad upsetting stories like this again - here's to keeping it light, upbeat, and chickeny

I posted earlier, but I guess I'll post again! I definitely would not blame China, because this happens all over the world. I was watching Animal Planet the other day and a guy in Texas kept 9 tigers and 2 bears in small cages with no shelter or anything. The only time they got water was when he shot it at them with the hose. There are cruel people all over the world, and no one person or place should be singled out. I must agree that the joy that people get out of that is sickening, but I personally thing seeing a lion at work during the kill is an amazing sight. That though, is just horrible because that's not the way lions should kill. They stalk their prey, they should have tall grass to do it in. And tossing the goat over the wall is just gross. Poor thing. I always say, animals are NEVER evil, but people can always be evil.

Don't feel bad for posting that Tara, seeing something alarming like that makes you want people to sit up and take notice. i am very aware of how badly China treats their animals, and their people, too. Doing my best to boycott their products, not an easy task. Still angry at how they contaminated all those pet food products. i didn't lose an animal, but my friend lost her beloved cat to the tainted food.

And true, we also have many people and organizations in our own country that do not treat animals with the care and respect they deserve. i have seen far worse pictures and video of horrific events - keeps you up late at night.

But, came to the conclusion, that the best i can do is to treat all the critters that come into my world with kindness, and make tiny changes by withholding my dollars from companies or countries with which i do not agree. Hugging your chickens daily also helps!

And then all that tainted pet food was deemed safe to be used as part ingredients for chicken feed and also sold to fish farmers. That way we all get to share in the toxins I guess.

I am a biologist. I can say that this is nothing like the food chain. In the wild, predators do not sit around to be fed. They hunt, and the ability to kill quickly (before the prey escapes) is an invaluable skill that they cannot survive without. This is not educational, this is teaching children that animals are here to be tortured.

But then again, China doesn't really value human life either.
Remember the old version of the one child per couple law? If a couple had more than one kid, the second would be killed? Sometimes if the child was a girl it would be killed anyway, since a male child was preferable. Nowadays, I think families pay a heavy tax to have more kids, but still.

I'm not a mother, I'm still too young to want kids or a husband. But can you imagine having a baby and then your husband takes it away from you and kills it because it is a girl? without even letting you hold it, or see it? Or your parents having a baby and killing your little brother or sister because it's against the law to have more than one kid?

I'm glad for Tara's post because there are a lot of good people on BYC who do not want to see animals tortured - we are exactly the type of people that with knowledge will likely act to make some kind of difference whether it's letters, where we choose to spend our money, educating others - whatever. Knowledge is power and we can make a difference in a world where so much difference needs to be made. Why squander the opprotunity of a forum where so many good people are linked together? How else does knowledge get spread other than through people with common interests and concerns?.Every single day that goes by without change is a day with tremendous suffering out there. We can have our fun - I even posted a joke today - but I know the most important thing I can be doing with my time is trying to make the world a little kinder to all beings.Thank you Tara. JJ

I wish I didn't look, but in a way I'm also glad I did because it's important to know what is going on in reference to animals in this world, so we can maybe make it better?

I certainly hope so.
