Chinese goose egg - how many days until hatch?

Photos of the last little wrinkly. Has a bit of a honk in its peep, hopefully not some underlying health issue.

So I have two more eggs. Somehow they were salvaged from my friend’s other broody goose (who gave up sitting recently). Her 2 year old who was very helpful washed the two eggs in a puddle and dropped this one in the process :he

Luckily the majority of the crack was in the aircell and didn’t break the membrane.

I waxed it up when i got them last week and put it in the incubator. I’m seeing an internal pip today… I’ll keep an eye on it to see whether it needs an assist … still not super hopeful, but definitely grateful that its made it this far. rooting for the little guy:fl

My broody being half silkie refused to be broken, so she has the other intact egg. I’m not exactly keen on having her raise a gosling if it hatches, so I guess I’ll be breaking out the broody cage soon.

Go, Denty - you can do it! :fl

Beak seemed to be right next to the waxed crack so I made a tiny safety hole…

There was no external pip this morning but chick was actively chirping. When candling, it looked like the space in the aircell had greatly diminished and so decided to intervene. I’m glad that I did because it looked like it had squished itself up against the shell and didn’t have room to strike. opened up the inner membrane a bit to let the beak and nostrils through. It looks like it has a bit more absorption to do, so I’ll see if this is enough help for it to make it the rest if the way on its own.

Judging progress by the amount of vein recession i think she definitely would have died without the safety hole, I’m now a devout believer in safety holes 😂

I’m also glad I’m working with goose eggs, it’s just so much bigger and easier to navigate. When I used to have quails, I thought my fingers would have a seizure every time I performed an assist

Goslings can get themselves into strange positions while trying to hatch...I've even had a couple block the safety hole while making their turns and expire. :barnie

Glad yours looks like it should be hatching in (probably) the next few days. As you know, those active veins means it has a bit to go. :jumpy
