the problem starts to rear it's ugly head when smoking bans can go no further and those 'activists' start eyeballing my BBQ grill.

What do you mean by "activists"?

I could swear this is deja vu for me - CA went through this 20 years ago.... I smoke and I seem to get along just fine. Guess I am just used to it.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one. As yall know BBQ competitions are my passion and I am the BBQ King. 27 cookoffs last year, only twice did I not trophy. I am currently looking at a new competition rig now that my other two went with the missus.

Did ya'll here about the proposed "sin" tax on non-diet soft drinks??

Raise your hand if you are addicted to soda!

Sin taxes are getting pretty out of hand. One hand promises "lower taxes" while the other hand is raising taxes on products that those who think they are getting a tax break use.

I just quit smoking. I understand you getting used to it, really I do, I submit though that you should be angry at having to. Now, I agree that you should not smoke at the bus stop (thank God I dont have to ride the bus) or the grocery store, or the hospital, etc etc but eating places and bars should be able to cater to the customer it selects

My husband gets upset because the smokers are the only "bad habit" people being penalized. What about alcohol? They never raise the tax on it, and it causes just as much disease and distress as smoking does . . .and don't think I am trying to start a big debate on the evils of either, I don't care if people smoke or drink, but I do agree along with my husband and this member that this attack on smoking has done more harm than good. I also am not saying its not bad for you, because truth be known, it probably is, BUT My husband works for a power company, (on disability now, and not because he smoked!) he use to laugh about what they were saying about the smokers and what poisons they were putting into the air, because he knew from working at a power plant, there were far more dangerous chemicals

being belched into the air from them as well as cars and other types of vehicles it was pathetic. I guess the best thing to do is grow your own (tobacco) and brew your own and just stay home on the farm. I know to a lot of people this isn't an issue they disagree with, as we have been made to believe that second hand smoke is more dangerous that regular smoke, BUT I had a very renown back spec. tell me that smoking was far more dangerous for a person's back (causing constrictions in the blood vessels between the vertebrae) than it was on the lungs. I said, "why isn't this told more to the public?" and he looked at me and said, "what scares you more, lung cancer or a bad back?" Point taken.

I got done being angry at things years ago. Now I get angry at our teenagers. I need to get over that too because they know everything and I am just old.

Ha ha, I am a little confused, your forum name is Gay Renee but you are married.

Anyway, I agree with ya exept on one point, Alcohol is very taxed and they are currently discussing raising the tax on it.

Thats why I brew my own.

I just thought of a couple I came across years ago when I was waitressing in a restaurant. The owners smoked, so it was a smoking restaurant any where in the building. There wasn't any sections. This couple came in and sat down next to a table where the folks were smoking. Mind you, they could have sat at any table in the place, but chose that one. The lady spent the whole time making faces and snide little comments about the smoke. Towards the end of their meal she told me, "We don't allow smoking in California." I had listened to her gripe and complain the whole time, biting my tongue. This comment sent me over the top and I answered her, "This is Texas and we do whatever the h*** we want." She looked shocked, but I personally didn't care. I knew the owner wouldn't either, he'd probably walk in with a cigarette in his mouth anyways. Her husband on the other hand was seriously trying to hide a smile. I can't imagine what he had to put up with at home with that woman. I think it should be up to the owners. If you don't want to be around it, go somewhere else. This restaurant was also a bar, and that meant people drinking and smoking. So sad to see the government trying to control it's people. More and more of a dictatorship. I just had a laugh at that memory though.

BTW- I did get a great tip from the husband after the woman left!!!

First Fact) Your Government will only do to you what you allow them.

Second Fact) Business owners comply to this law because their

insurace rates drop. Most people are too lazy to complain.

Third Fact) Government has no place dictating private enterprises

outside of the controled substances guidelines.

There is a bigger agenda; because otherwise the govenment would be

giving a tax credit for top of the line smoke machines
. I would like to hear some ideas as to what that is.

PS- I am a non-smoker, and I hate smoke. But making laws that violate the Constitution is a bigger detriment to me (and everyone else)because I have a choice... and having choices is freedom.
