Well I am a smoker...
* I am all for smoke free restaraunts, I hate having someone smoke when I am eating.
*I am all for smoke free bars, really, what's wrong with going outside to smoke, if you are giving unhealthy air to those who have chosen not to smoke?

What I have a problem with is the fact that although they pick on cigarettes as being a cancer causing disgrace, they don't tell you what all the stuff you use to clean your house with everyday is doing to you. They don't give any guidlines on cleaners AND they don't assume any responsibilty for any illness it may cause. The stuff is deadly folks!
LYSOL is a product I would NEVER spray in my childs sickroom
Oh, and those those neat little SWIFFER WET JETS are killing kids everyday, do you know that the chemicl in them is 1 molecule away from antifreeze and they break down the major organs of kids and pets that play on the floor?
And that's just two of them.

Be wary people, smoking is NOT the most dangerous thing on the hit list...it just SMELLS the worst

It is a fact that children confined in a non ventilated house or car with a smoker have a much higher incidence of asthma. Hopefully any smokers here at least don't smoke around their kids. Someday they will classify that as child abuse.

Here in Ontario they already do...if you are caught smoking with a kid in your car you are charged. It is against the law. Foster parents have to smoke outside thier homes, according to the rules, but who knows whether that one is enforced. I do know the car law is enforced...even if your widows are all down

That was the serious pits. You could see the movie projecting on the cigg smoke. When it used to be legal it didn't bother me that much. Now that it's illegal I can smell a cigg being smoked 3 cars ahead of me at a stop light with my windows up. It's very disgusting now.

That being said I think restaurants should always be non smoking, but bars should have the choice. The health issue in a bar is kind of a moot point. Alcohol is worse than ciggs. Like Farmerlor said it's hard to sit in a bar all night long without a cigg.

What I find amusing is when a restaurant or any business has their employees smoking right in front of the entrance. You have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get inside. Of course if they keep raising the cigg tax people will eventually stop smoking.

I dont think restaurants should be forced to be non smoking to suit you. I think you should decide ifin you want to spend your money there. That being said, there were restaurants here in Houston that advertised that they were a non smoking restaurant and they did very well. So did some bars with the same adveritisments. They customer should choose not the government. It wont end there folks, they are about to start choosing a whole lot of stuff for you ands yall dont see it coming. Its not a left or right issue either, both parties are guilty.

To me this is the main point. Smoking/nonsmoking areas could have been handled without govt. interference. As the number of smokers has dropped, more and more nonsmoking public areas would have become available. And more and more smokers would have been considerate about where and when they smoked.

I'm much more concerned about the vast number of areas in which we allow govt. interference than I am about a smoky restaurant or bar.

There is actually a bar here that but a bus outside for the smokers, in the winter he had a space heater in there for them to stay warm...The city made him remove it, and threatened to shut his bar down until the bus was removed...They said for a number of reasons...
#1 the bus needed to be painted another color--couldn't stay the normal school bus color
#2 he needed to carry insurance on the bus
#3 the bus didn't have an engine so then it needed to be considered on his property taxes
#4 because of #3 it would be considered public use and 'smoking isn't allowed in any businesses in the town'

Those were only 4 of the reasons they made him get rid of it...Here he was trying to provide a 'smoking area' outside the main buisness for his customers and the city still made him shut it down..

Run-A-Muck Nice rant.. I aree with you and I wasnt talking about responsible smokers who use ashtrays... my comment about parking lots was about smokers who dump the ashtray of their car out in parking lots... it happens all the time around here and in doing animal rescue I've seen many wild birds who've tried to eat the filters and butts die from it on many occasions... so I'm sure that makes me a bit more intolerant when I see innocent wildlife affected too... I avoid places that allow smoking just like you avoid ones that don't. Works for me. I actually smoke a cigar once in awhile.... maybe one every 3 months and the cigar shop is a smoking lounge, they always ask me if I want to light up there , I politely decline, quickly get my cigar and leave. I can't stand all the smoke in there. I enjoy my cigar out on my deck on a nice evening where it only affects me and my bf who is also smoking one. I don't even let my dogs out when we are smoking... I guess the difference for me is public places vs private.... if I was told I couldnt smoke a cigar on my deck I'd be hopping mad but in a public place .. I just don't see the issue when it's a health hazard that could affect others.

Sorry I wasn't aiming my rant at your earlier comment, I was just trying to say not all us smokers are bad...lol
I agree though it's nasty when you are outside and see someone had emptied there car ashtray on the road...I am not possitive on this, but I thought I heard a few years ago how deer in a certain part of Florida were getting hit on the road ALOT because they were eatting the cigarette butts off the roads...Kinda like they were addicted to them..
