Choosing Chicks Maran vs Welsummer

I had both (my BCM died of heat stroke this last summer, it was an especially hot summer in Tx) they both came from MPC. My Welsummer lays a lovely terracotta egg with speckles sometimes but is very finicky, if it's too hot I'm lucky if I get 1 egg a week, but she's a great winter layer, and a very friendly chatty lady (she's almost 2) My BCM's egg was chocolate brown and absolutely gorgeous! She was very friendly too and followed me around like a puppy, lol.

Awe thank you. Moose, he's a ragdoll. He loves chickens. Finds smaller chicks a bit too interesting however......

Neither of my Marans (1 FBCM, 1 Cuckoo) laid particularly well nor particularly dark, though my FBCM has he darkest eggs of the flock (when she does lay - and at this point her eggs are all dog food as she has quality issues). My Welsummer is older, but in her younger days did lay more consistently - not very dark eggs, but they were usually spekcled. All of them are pretty mellow birds.
