It’s amazing you understand genetics like that! I guess I’d better read up on it if I plan on letting my ducks hatch any eggs…
Compared to quite a few people on here I know very, very little
BBS (Blue, Black, Splash) and Gold/Silver genetics are pretty simple. I'm still learning about Partridge genetics...
I've taken the time to learn some genetics because it'll save me time when I'm working toward a goal, like with these silkies.
Should've seen me while looking for these silkies 😆 My family was calling me really picky, but all I was trying to do was save time (and space) by only getting the chickens I needed. Still ended with quite a few wrong colours but anyway...

Some random chicken talk... (You can probably tell how random my brain is by now...).
If the silkies eggs are clear, I'm thinking I should swap Steven (White silkie roo, potentially infertile one) with one of the other two while the hens are still laying, in the hopes I can get some babies before they go broody or stop laying. I'm pretty sure which one I should do is obvious but I'm still having a hard time choosing 😅 .
Hens are Silver coloured (name is Sky), and Black (Britta). At the moment I'm not focusing on anything I hatch from Sky, I don't need anymore silver silkies but I'll gladly hatch eggs from her just so I can have silkies babies :D.
The two extra boys are Blue Silver partridge (Barda) and Splash (Ghost). If I do Barda with Britta I should get Blue and Black babies, currently can't remember Silver genetics but that'll show up (probably on all the chicks because it's the rooster?). If I do Ghost I'll just get Blue babies. Ghost seems like the obvious choice because I don't really want more Silvers.
I think at the moment I'm working toward Blue Partridge, which Barda is but I have to breed out the Silver...
I should probably go play with the chicken calculator... if anyone's got some thoughts feel free to share! Or just tell me to be quiet if this is extremely boring :p

It's currently very late and my brain can't retain names and which colour bird they belong to, so if I have any advice, it'll be for tomorrow!

Colour genetics are still not in my book completely, but almost none of the birds I breed have serious colour requirements anyway
My Sussex are all the same colour, so it doesn't matter unless I cross them or I want to sex-link them (which I have done before). Oh, except stupid slate shank genetics, had to learn about that so I can try to keep my birds close to SOPs :he
My Barnevelders I need to know a little more about, I have Gold and Silver which I can breed separately and not worry about or I can sex-link them too. They're also for a breeding project at some point so I've had to learn about yellow skin, lacing and frizzle genetics (frizzle genetics are also really simple...).
The silkie project is for a non-recognized mixed colour anyway, so there's no requirements other than the ones I set myself :p

I need to set a limit for BYC…the more homework I have hanging over my head, the more I want to think about chickens and ducks!
I spend way too much time reading byc....
It's amazing what my brain is capable of focusing on. I can't sit and study for very long even though a lot of it is fairly interesting (animal medical care, etc.). But I can sit for hours reading (sometimes very useless information) about chickens... and budgies... and parrots in general... or any other random thing that peaks my interest...
I was reading about Ostrich care the other week for example...

Sounds like me…believe it or not I once actually spent at least an hour reading meat bird threads even I never intend on culling my birds or raising meat chickens.
