My Cuckoo Maran pullet was hatched in January; the other two are 6 weeks younger. Lately I've been noticing the faces on the Maran and the White Leghorn 'pinking up' but their combs and wattles are still small. The Golden Sex Link isn't pinking up yet. They're on layer crumbles now, rather than developer (I tried to switch them to pellets and they wouldn't eat them, and lost weight, so we went back to crumbles).

But...no eggs.

I tried the back-patting to see if the girls would do the 'good-girl-squat', and the Maran and the Leghorn did crouch, but didn't put their wings out at all. The Golden Sex Link one wouldn't crouch at all. So I know she's nowhere near ready. But the other two?? I have seen the Maran checking out the nest box. Once. A couple of days ago.

Thoughts?

... you know... come to think of it, my 4 2/3 month old Silkie does this weird head down, bobbing and weaving thing with her butt in the air whenever I walk towards her. It's not an aggressive thing ( eep! I hope not! ) - but I was wondering if it's her way of going through "puberty" ... she also will launch off very loudly sometimes by yelling: BOK BOK BOK BOK BOK BA-GAAWK! BA-GAAWK GAK GAK GAK!!!
Do your girls do this weird hollering & bob& weave dance?

My girls are all making the weird hollering, but no one is dancing:( They are 3 months so I think I may be getting ahead of myself....but yesterday something just told me to start looking for some eggs soon....
