Coalition of Animal Sanctuaries Urges Ban on Backyard Chickens

I don't think anyone has the right to tell anyone else what to eat or where to get it.

I will protect my flock against/from these predators just like I would from any other!

Ummmmmm my chickens keep the mice and rats GONE... we keep our feed out of access to rodents too. Stupid ppl. Chickens NEED protein...thats what eggs are made of, they cant be vegitarians!

Some of these animal rights groups can be very dangerous. An acquaintance of mine, an owner of a goat dairy, had felony charges brought against him for an act of animal cruelty that never happened. The charges were dropped when the DA finally figured out that the "witnesses" were a bunch of nut cases. The dairyman was still out several thousand dollars in legal fees which he could ill afford.

Keep in mind that these groups do not believe anyone should have any animals at any time, anywhere for any reason.

Except for them, of course, because they have rescued them from the rest of us horrible people.

There was a story I heard on the radio recently; an activist wrote a piece saying that since humans have the smarts to get protein from non-animal sources, no human should eat meat or animal products. They just refuse to accept that humans and some other animals, chickens included, are physically adapted to be omnivores. They truly consider meat-eating to be murder. You really have to keep a close watch on these groups or else omnivorous diets will be banned by law someday. Frightening. Choose your own diet, but don't tell me what to eat/not eat, or worse, regulate me into it.

Urgh.

I'm sooo glad someone posted this. Chicken Run Rescue is based in Minneapolis, MN and takes in chickens from our local Animal Control. They do great work and it's truely necessary but....

Another link on thier website shows the letter they sent to the MPLS City Council in support of an increase in permit and application fees. It included the information from the coalition's position statement. The letter was presented at a city council meeting where discussion on chicken permitting was being held. It makes me a little nervous to think about what else was discussed.

I'm now off to do some additional research and send a note to a few of the city council members.
