Okay, funny, but are you trying to get this thread closed again?

It was already closed once due to the "P" word.

Folks, after some discussion among the staff, we are reopening this thread. Just remember, no PETA discussion is allowed; stick close to the topic. Thank you for your patience.

Call them feral chickens. They are not native, and not federally protected. And probably displace native birds... There's a similar situation on Assauteage with "wild" ponies.

Yes, aren't chickens descended from Asian jungle fowl? Whatever is wild there are likely descended from livestock that got away.

Similar problem with feral pigs in CA. Not native, no natural predator, and they cause a lot of problems.

Yep, wherever the Spanish explorers went. They'd drop off some pigs, let them forage and fatten up and later come back and hunt them. In a way, it was a good idea. The ensured a food supply that would take care of itself. But since the animals aren't native, they upset the ecosystem.

They really are in la-la land. This is the irony of these types of groups: They believe they are great nature lovers, but are in actuality distant from the realities of nature. Consider the criticism that chickens will attract mice. Good grief - chickens will EAT mice.

Katherine

Do these people know this lil fact about chickens?
