Coccidiosis question

Glad to hear that your chicks seem fine. My chicks seem to be much better as well. No blood in their poops today. I individually dosed them a couple drops each in addition to the Corid water for three days now. I cleaned the heck out of the brooder pen that gave them the coccidia. Now I have to put them back out there. Makes me nervous, but they’re too messy to keep on the porch any longer.
@MaryZoe Glad they are doing better!
I would continue for the full 7 days, then step it down to 1/2 teaspoon liquid Corid per gallon of water for another 3-5 days to taper them off.
Corid is mild and won't hurt them this should allow them to build resistance. They do need to be exposed, so being too "sterile" can be harmful as well.

i just have the corid in their water,,i did not individually dose...did find one bloody poop but today was the first day....how much powder did you use in a gallon of water,,,,is it 1/2 tsp or 1-1/2 tsp in gallon of water
@HAPPYCHICKENLADY17 You have powdered Corid, the dosage you need to use is 1 1/2 teaspoon of powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days, then step that down to 1/3 teaspoon per gallon of water for another 3-5 days.

Sounds like a great idea. My chicks are so young that they haven’t had any treats yet. Just medicated feed. But I will keep that trick in mind if my older chix need medication!

Mine were already 7 or 8 weeks old when they got it... from younger ones that came in as chicks I’m pretty sure. I only lost one, but it was very sudden. I’m glad yours are doing better. Even over a month later I’m still constantly carefully examining their poop!

Yes, @Wyorp Rock, I will continue with the Corid water. I'm hoping I can discontinue the individual dosing, though. I was able to hold them and encourage them to sip the drops off the top of a syringe (no needle, haha). It just takes sooo long to go through all of them. They will definitely be exposed to some coccidia out there, though I tried to get rid of it, must admit! I'll be watching. I appreciate your support.

Yes, my poor guys were only between 1 - 2 weeks! I'm sure I'll be watching mine as well. Glad yours are better. :)

Hi @MaryZoe Yes, I would discontinue the direct dosing if that has been done for at least 3 days. They have the Corid water, so hopefully that will take care of it. If you notice you have 1 that is failing, then give it a direct dose.

Coccidia is in the poop and soil - in their environment. You will never get rid of it. But your chicks should build resistance.

THE CHICKS JUST FINISHED THEIR 7 DAYS OF CORID, AND TODAY I NOTICED SOME BLACK POOP IN THE COOP,,,HAVE NOT SEEN ANY BLOOD POOP FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK
Post some photos please. What have you fed the chicks or have they had access to dirt or ash. Poop can have a wide variety of colors.
