Cochin Thread!!!

Danny,

I can't wait to see pics as they mature. You always have such interesting colors~!
Thank you ! I am also anxious to see how they mature. I am starting to see some progress for all my labor and years I have put in. I am also working on several more colors of chocolate like mille, columbian and buff columbian.

they should. i've had multiple roos together free ranging for a while and after the initial 'who's in charge' they all get along just fine. all my cochins currently are penned for breeding but will be turned out here soon, so i can use the pens for other breeds.
Thanks that is good news, it is virtually impossible to rehome roosters here.

Some recent pics - my LF Buff pair and a little hen that is too light for breeding Mille Fleurs but is just too pretty to part with. I want to see just what colors and pattern she has when she matures . She had nearly white down when she hatched.
she is cute. How old is she? She may just end up with more color than u think! Can't wait to c what else u have!!!

A rooster!!! I will send ya one

OMG that buff barred is so beautiful!!

I'm trying to ban myself from adding new varieties,,,,,BUT

If I throw my lonesome buff roo in with my barred hens, could I get a start on that color????

I believe that's how the color started.. you're not going to get clear buff barreds in an early generation though. I've seen some gorgeous black/buff barred birds, though!

Nancy,

What a beautiful pic~! He looks like he is a "light barred". Which means that he has "two barring genes" & all his chicks will be barred. If your roo is dark barred he will give you 50 % barred & 50 % solid. I have some lovely cockerels maturing that are light barred. I can't wait to see how they measure up in "type" over the Summer. Thanks for the great pics ~!!!

Thanks Lynne!
I understood about having two copies of barred vs one copy, but I didn't realize you could tell by the phenotype.

And, as promised, I did get some pictures tonight. Although sought-after shots are never as artistic as natural, spontaneous shots sometimes turn out!
My little guy from Danny's eggs,

And these pictures don't do these birds justice, but I started too late and lost the light.

Gotta get some better pictures of the girls!
