Cochin Thread!!!

Okay, so if I use a Blue hen with Jack Jr., will that work? I don't mind hatching 50% blue as long as the other 50% are Splash. I just don't want to hatch 100% blue (by using Black). So I need a good Blue hen then?

I don't normally post on here but I thought I would share about the great show this past weekend! First off, congratulations to everyone who participated in the show- there we tons of beautiful birds there.
This was my first time in the open show- my last experience in shows was in the junior division at Crossroads and Ohio Nationals last year. I now go to school at Murray State which is the very southwest corner of Kentucky, so i drove home to Ohio this past weekend, washed birds, and then headed to the show at around 9 Friday evening. As usual, everyone was extremely kind and friendly.

I only brought two bantam cochins, both black (I also brought some other breeds). I wasn't expecting to do well with the pullet because she is only around 5 months old(she ended up placing 3rd). I figured the cock might place high in his class or get reserve variety possibly(which I wasn't counting on too much because of the stiff competition in the black variety). I was simply excited to be finally participating and competing with so many of the top breeders that I had learned so much from, so it came as a surprise to me that the Roo got best black Cochin and reserve of breed behind the beautiful white hen that got champion feather leg. While it doesn't seem like anything too special, I was ecstatic just to have placed. The point of this post I suppose is to thank all of you for providing such helpful information on this forum everyday. The lurking and learning I have done helped me to breed and select that bird and helped me to finally get my name out there as a decent Cochin breeder. So again, thank you.

I couldn't figure out how to post a pic to the thread, but older pics of the black Roo taken this spring are uploaded in my pictures.

Feeling really computer challenged right now. After years of denial, I signed up on facebook tonight. I did this solely because I heard that CI had a great group there. I found the group, but can't figure out how to post a message and say hello.

Gail, you have to request to join the group and then wait to be accepted. It is a closed group, so an admin has to approve your request. It may take a day or two. You should get a notification when it is approved. After it is, you can post etc.

Wow, seems like the Cochins did great at the OH Nationals! That's about 2500 miles to far for a show for me, but I still wish I could have gone!

The Western Cochin National will be held in Stockton California in January it is also an ABA National so should be a great show.. I so want to go but am yielding to being practical and not going. Just too many miles , days , mountains and winter storms to make it fun , safe and worthwhile. Hope you can make that one and take a few pictures for us.
