Cochin Thread!!!

Hoping to get some feedback on the color of this little mottled cochin fella. Is he a self-blue mottled , a "lighter" blue mottled, or a "darker" splash mottled? Genetically I understand the differences between self-blue/blue/splash, but he is from purchased eggs and I'm just getting into the mottleds so I'm not very familiar with how they look at a young age. He just turned 1 month old on the 27th. I thought he would be darkening up a little more or showing some lacing by now if he was a regular blue mottled.

Some beautiful birds being shown here.

My black frizzle has now shown a lot of white over the last week. This confused me because he is from a black frizzle roo and a white hen. he seems to have some "lacing" in his hackle feathers. He is now five weeks old.

And my Self Blue Barred that i am hoping is a pullet.

When the female is a year old or maybe a bit before and the roo..........????? maybe 9 months or so, and yes it is a combination of things. Something you may not want to hear, but it's an important issue, and that's about the practice of artificial insemination. From the looks of your birds, I'm going to guess that you will need to, the better the birds the more help they need. Yours appear to have plenty of fluff, so you may never have fertile eggs without help. You're going to get arguments about this and I know some people have good luck with their birds breeding naturally but trust me, it may be an issue. I have one rooster that is an excellent roo and is able to fertilize any hen that he is with, but I've got more roos that can't get the job done and need assistance.
Thank you & yes, not something that I really look forward to but I have read that this could be an issue with the more fluffy birds. haha - my husband will die when I tell him we have to start AI, he may draw the line at that! No, he wouldn't, but I can hear know the tells he will be telling at work.

Thanks for the complements on my birds, they're mostly just hatchery stock birds but I still think they're beautiful fluff balls, regardless if they would win a show or not.
Love the birds & the colors.
and yes, that's okay their mostly hatchery. My LF are also hatchery (I didn't buy from hatchery but girl I bought from did). I only have them for pets because I love them and will still make nice babies. Although a couple (blue cockeral & blk hen) are rather nice birds and may actually be considered good breeders for LF.
My two cockerals/roos are getting HUGE, they are sooooo cool.

They are @ 9months old now. I currently have (2) white hens, (2) partridge hens, (1) blk hen, (1) buff hen, (1) buff cockeral & (1) blue cockeral.

YOu've got some really nice colors. I can't wait to see what color combos, I may get, hopefully in the spring, from all mine.

ditto.........
I breed Birchen and yes, I see what looks like Birchen markings. It is hard for me to tell with the Frizzle thing going on, and I would say that for a proper Birchen chick, the markings are too heavy for this young age. It will be very interesting to see how this baby matures. I hope you'll keep us posted.
