I just started with cochins this year and have 1 splash bantam roo (flash) one frizzled bantam hen (princess foo foo) and a mixed color bantam roo (cocky) I also have a 7 or 8 barred standard cochins started, they are 12 weeks old, and I can't wait to see how they turn out they are gorgeous so far, I love the breed and would love to get some partridge standards or just about any other color. Hopefully flash and princess foo foo will make some pretty splash babies in the spring!!!

My Blue Mottled girl went thru a tough molt and now has a lot bigger white spots.

This was her earlier this Spring. I hatched several eggs from her and my Black Mottled Rooster but only 1 was a Blue. He was gorgeous but was killed by some stray dogs. I will keep hatching and eggs she lays.

ANDY, I don't think that normally you would expect to get Birchen from Black/White, you would get it from Columbian/Black, but not plain B/W. Do you know if your Black comes from solid Blacks or could he be from a Birchen program. I've had solid Black come from breedings and I don't think that is too unusual. If he's from a Birchen program that might be where the markings come from. Breeding Birchens is like walking a tight rope and I'm sure that's true for many patterned birds. When I decide who I'll breed to whom, it's a matter of evaluating who has markings that will balance out the other birds markings, and you must be careful breeding two heavily marked birds together. You can end up with a real mess, and the lacing going all over the place. I know you guys don't have much to choose from even with Cochins of fair type. There is another person on here from S Africa that has had to outcross to another breed to get the color they were looking for, so with this in mind I think you're doing extremely well to have birds with the quality of type that yours have. I applaud you for your commitment to the breed in view of the obsticles you face.

Thanks lilcrow, this little fella doesnt feature in any of my plans, but i am going to keep him around to see how he turns out. Once i get my partridges sorted then i am moving on to SL, GL and Silver pencilled. But first need to get some good type on my partridges. I am not of the heritage of the black frizzle roo this guy came from, but the father is pure black at the moment, he may have come into contact with columbian, although those are exceedingly rare here.

i also have to outcross (Silver laced wyandotte bantam) for my SL and GL projects in the future. So will see where that takes me once i have sorted the partridges:)
