Cochin Thread!!!

I will look into that book..Deffenilty sounds like something I want to read...

...In the bottom photo, it looks like the front three are roos to me..am I wrong?

I have owned and hatched silkies for three years..so not use to these combs etc.
By the age in the second photo I know which are which by color (in Mille Fleurs) The boys still have color contrast all over and the girls have settled into a dominant Buff (White for Calicos). For most other Cochin colors I can usually tell by attitude and type by then.
Plus the combs and wattles of the boys are redder first.

4 weeks, cockerel on the left, pullet on the right.
That head tilt is so "girl". (Cochin girls are the sweetest birds.

My boys like to be first out the door and are more curious.

I want to keep her in quarintine forever...just so I can love on her all the time.

'The booys get redder first' is a great tip..Thank you!

My recommendation is always to include the SOP cost in with your initial stock cost. If you are serious about breeding/showing, and are willing to buy the best starter birds you can, it only makes sense. It makes even more sense to buy your SOP before buying your birds - an informed buyer will always get the better birds.
You're right. I wish I would have known there was such a thing as an SOP when I got my first birds. lol That's ok, it's been a learning experience.
