Hi, What an amazing Cochin Housing setup, just beatiful! I have a question, and I hope someone familiar with Cochins can help! My friend (who knows nothing about chickens, but heard me say I wanted cochins for their broodiness, he is 80yo, and a little forgetful!) Gave me two Cochin chicks, Partridge, I am sure one is a roo, the other came to me with an injured leg, shes active, good appetite and I've given her leg a splint/bandage support. I'm pretty sure its her hock, time will tell, she will be able to get around but may be permanently lame!
What I have noticed, is they both have a pronounced claw/finger on their wings, I have never seen this in the 10 other breeds I have raised, and wondered if this is typical of the breed, or a fault? They used the claws like hooks to climb/cling, but now are feathering in, slowly, and use more leg, jump, flap, to get around, they are very interesting, sweet and quite bonded(within the hour after I got them) with me! Thanks, Little Feather

I would love to see a picture of the claw. That sounds cool even if not standard equipment!

That is so pretty! I am getting one of those in one week from today! Where did you get yours?

The woman I got them from said she had to drive all the way to Aberdeen, wa to pick them up. I'm in Tacoma so that is quite a drive. Other than that i have no idea lol This is my first set of Cochin chicks. She is much more relaxed and calm then the others. Already very sweet. We named her ParTreach :)

Hi there...I am new to bantam cochins and have 2 blue mottled (10 BM eggs in the bator today) and 3 spalsh...well our city had a tour of homes and gardens and my garden and coop were on the tour...I spruced up the coop and I even decided to lay some sod in the chicken yards to see how it went...and to my surprise it has been a great success...the chickens love it and it looks great...early days, but so far they have been quite gentle with the new grass...now if only my bantam cochins would stop being broody...and all at the same time!!!! This is my trio of splash bantam cochins in their little pen...I finally got some fertile eggs then they went broody...they love their little bit of outside lawn... New sand for the floors and frshly cleaned for visitors....
My god! That is so beautiful! I have a new goal. Lol thank you so much for posting this. Do you think standard cochins will kill the sod quickly? I know bantams are muuuch smaller. :)
