Cochin Thread!!!

Quote: after researching it more, it's likely he's either partridge or wheaten based, as BOTH roosters will have the duckwing triangle... (see my post just before the one i'm quoting...)

so chances are they are silver penciled on a wheaten base, if the hens have white breast. the roosters all remain duckwing (but not e+ which is what that article was referring to for the oegb).

Really? She looks nothing like my silkie And only has four toes. Can cochins have silkied mutations?

yes. google silkied cochins. People have bred cochins with the silkied feather mutations, I have seen several. Add ki4got pointed out it is a recessive trait.
What you have is not a frizzle, looks more like a silkied Cochin

Hello, new to this thread. I have 3 Cochins now - I love their puffy feathers and feathered legs/toes. We have a black, blue and partridge. My black is 6 months old and we are awaiting her eggs. The others are 2 months old.

partridge

blue

black in the back... bad old photo - she's hates posing for photos

Hi everyone, I am currently looking into Cochins! Subscribing so I can read through posts! I understand they are super friendly and would love to have some super friendly chickens with my kiddos!
hi both. Welcome :)

I think you should say people who have cross bred cochins and silkies......

I get really sad when I see this thread heading into a discussion of non-cochin birds

ok i'm sorry but that really didn't make any sense...

dominant white when heterozygous DOES allow leakage, that's what I was saying before.

but I have no ide what you mean by double blue breeding. a 'double blue' IMO would be a homozygous blue which IS splash... but I have no idea what you mean by canceling each other out.

'when breeding untrue colors'. um... no clue, again. sorry.

regarding paint silkies, I found this...

so back to the initial question of a half cochin and half gold sexlink producing a paint, my response is still the same. no I doubt it's a paint. what they look like are heterozygous dominant whites with color leakage. that occurs with nearly every dominant white crossed with another color. leghorns, sexlinks, whatever.  I had a sultan roo breed a dark brahma hen and got a few of these.

the paint mutation (so far) seems to be limited to the silkies at this time.

canceling out as in the uneven blue coloring that a splash is
untrue colors are olors like cuckoo when u breed two cuckoos together you dont get cuckoo u get a single copy cuckoo u have to breed cuckoo to blacks in order to get a good solid cuckoo
