Thanks. He is buff barred. Here is a better picture of the actual feather color pattern. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/23433_pa1734781.jpg

RR is he possibly a son or grandson of my roo ?

Maybe. I go them from bantyshanty (only wanted pullets). I think she got them from a lady in PA, eBay. Only the males hatched out barred. I will be taking the buff pullet from the hatch and crossing it back to the best buff barred rooster.
You have a very lovely roo!

davony's chicks :

I have a sweet Brahma hen that plucked my contact out of my eye. I was very lucky that she didn't poke my eye out!! It was just a little sore for a few hours. I couldn't believe she did that. She is no longer allowed to get to close to my face! LOL

Yummy! Kind of looks like a chocolate sundae or banana split - sprinkled with coconut with a cherry on top!!

Yes!
I hatched a couple of frizzles in a bunch of mixed cochin eggs. They hatched 9/30 and I noticed almost right away there were two black one whose down was shorter than the others. Last Wednesday I saw their pin feathers were coming in curled and I knew right away they were frizzles. I don't plan on keeping them. They are interesting but I only have room for a couple of flocks - Mille Fleur and Lavender are what I am working on now, though the buff barred sure is an elegant color.............
There are so many beautiful breed and colors in breeds but I am happy, happy, happy with cochins.

how exactly did the buff barred get created? was is a cross of buff with regular barred somewhere or some other colors in between? i have a buff pullet and a barred cockerel (yes, Moxie is officially a boy!)

eta: meant to finish my sentence: would my 2 birds eventually produce the buff barred if i tried?

I had some banny cochins about 12 years ago. I love them; they are beautiful and they lay nice eggs for their size! They do well in the cold winters, too.

yes, buff & barred cochins mated together, the cull to breed the black out of the buff.

It is really hard to get the barring on the hen for some reason, I don't know why. I do have a couple of pullets that are showing more barring(actually looks mottled) than their mothers. I am doing a out cross this year to some very typey buff cochins...this may set me back a couple of years but I hope it will be worth it to get better type on them.
