I'mACountryGirl :
Well.....John Baker with RMFF just called me back to let me know that he has already entered all my information in the list, so I now have zero chance to back out!!
So, I will be there early Saturday, I will bring my 2 birds, and I will prepare to drink away my embarrassment with margaritas afterward if I'm laughed out of the show!!
I found out that mine are the only self-blue bantam cochins entered, so that should stack things in my favor! I really hope some of you are also going to be there!! We could make arrangements to meet up at a certain time on Saturday...
The type on your pair is better than most I've seen. Question...what color are their shanks and bottoms of their feet? Blue/Slate and White, or dusky yellow and yellow, the latter being what you need since all Cochins have either yellow or dusky/swarthy yellow legs/feet. All the Self-Blues that I've seen to date have had Blue legs and White feet, which goes back to whatever was used to create them. The birds I started with 3 years ago had Blue legs and white feet. My f3's were mostly yellow legged which is the infuence of the Blacks coming into play. I have some photos of the f3 splits on that Self Blue thread that was referenced earlier.
RE: leg color - since they aren't a recognized variety, you probably won't get dinged on leg color at the show this weekend (unless they have yellow legs already, then you are ahead of the game). Something to keep in mind in the future once we get them recognized is that the standard will call for yellow/dusky yellow legs and feet, so anything else would be considered color foreign to the breed and a disqualification.
