Congratulations! If you follow the biosecurity and safe introductions they should do great. I have never had a cochin (except giant cochins) who didn't get along with every one. That being said they are prone to being picked on by more assertive birds or birds who have established their turf. If you need more info on quarantine and flock integrating their are great links here on BYC and most of us love sharing our experiences hint hint pick me pick me lol

Why do you think the LF Cochins can be so mean? My lead hen is almost as aggressive as some of my Wyndotts were. Can't get over her charging the fence after cats and dogs raising heck and growling.
I think the main reason for it is the "lead hen" title you mentioned. They have an order and social structure and usually top dog is the rooster. If you don't have a rooster to protect and warn the flock, of your rooster may be the hen pecked cochin male, the dominant hen will take on this roll nine times out of ten. They have even been known to crow fairly effectively but little miss bossy pants is definitely trying to protect then all. I have a couple cochin frizzle males who are trying to even be the boss of the jersey giant girls who don't mind the lil twerps acting big but those boys are so dang cute and kind they are quickly put in their place by my giant cochin hen or our barred rock sr gal. Super cute to watch the matriarchy around here.
Oh my goodness! Blue mottled! Oh my goodness! I must get some! I have a blue addiction!Where did you get her?

I got her from a lady in Oregon who was getting out of cochins. She was her only blue mottled. So happy I snatched her up before anyone else, because tons were interested. Once the hen is all settled in, I can start selling hatching eggs if you're interest![]()
