Cochin Thread!!!

They almost look self blue! Or they could be white but just a little dirty, my large fowl white cochin girl looks self blue when she gets dusty, lol. They could darken up and be blue, or they could be splash, but I think they look a little blue.

Lol my white girl takes dust showers A LOT and she looks like a chocolate after! They are from my blue roo and/or from a white or my 2 blue hens. I only have 3, at the moment:gig soon I'll have my splash pullet laying. And also some store bought cochies(2 gl banty pullets? 1 buff banty?pullet 1 blue banty? cockerel and 1 black std pullet) that just turned 2 months yesterday!

Or lavender?
They could be lavender too, I didn't think of that.

If they are from the white hen and the blue roo they could just be a lighter blue or lavender but I don't know how you can get a lavender (what colors I mean

) splash is a really pretty color in my mind

I have a splash pullet about 4-5 months and she's a real beauty! I have the bantys outside already, i thought that they didn't have enough nutrients when they were chicks because they stayed a real small size! Lol! Until I realized that they were bantys. They turned 2 months on the 15th. I didn't want them outside but they're in a secure coop. I have a blue cockerel that I think is a banty for sure he's much smaller than my black pullet. I'll take some pics later on(hopefully)

My 3 little gals! I wonder what color they are!

These girls are either Splash, or Self Blue (aka "Lavender"). The ONLY way that they are Self Blue is if your rooster and hens are "split" for Self Blue, as the lavender gene is recessive. I'm betting though that with the birds you listed in your flock, that they are Splash and are out of the Blue hens. They will likely have some dark blobs of color come in on their feathers are they mature, but they will not darken to the point of looking Blue.

These two are some of mine. Blue on the top, Splash on the bottom.

I'd also like to say your birds are gorgeous!

Do you have frizzled females also, or do you only keep frizzled males?

(its just a curiosity question. I just hatched some of each and I'm debating whether to keep my frizzled male, or keep a smooth male and add a frizzled female or two... <only one pen for them...at the moment lol>)

Thanks!

Right now I have a Frizzle rooster and a Frizzle hen (in separate pens paired with smooth-feathered mates, of course). When I had just one pen, the only Frizzles I kept were hens. I think mostly it is just personal preference, but I had a few reasons for keeping the Frizzle pullets: a.) Some of my hatching egg customers did not want to hatch Frizzle chicks or wanted only Frizzle eggs, so I could send eggs from either Frizzle or smooth hens according to their wishes. b.) I found that it was easier to sell excess cockerels, and juvenile pairs and trios if the cockerel was a Frizzle. and c.) I really prefer the look of the Frizzle hens over that of the Frizzle roosters. It's purely my own opinion, but I'm not a big fan of how the frizzling looks on the roosters' longer feathers.
