Cochin Thread!!!

Pretty girl!

My cochins began laying about 6 months of age, and then stopped shortly thereafter about the end of October due to short days.

Your girls will get going in the spring. Just be patient.

From what I have read from other posts, I believe the lavender gene will also dilute the red, but I am not sure to what degree.

Yes, picture a porcelain d'uccle.......it is basically a lavender mille fleur.

The black is lavender
The white is white
The red is a cream/buff

So it would be a creamybuff head on a lavender body?

Here is a pic of a porcelain d'uccle so you can see the coloring I am talking about.

Well Steve hopefully I will see what the Lavender does to the red in my Lavender Mille, Wheaten , Brown Red and Partridge cochin projects.

Good luck Danny, Hope the all turn out for you. I am sure they will be a sight to see !!

Hi folks, I know this is a big no no in showing birds, but could someone post a few pictures of "vulture hawks" on younger and older Standard Cochins. I recognize what it looks like on a bantam, yet the two birds are quite a ways apart on the shape of their pants.
Thanks guys, we have a 3 month old pullet and I'm curious and want to have these feather problems shown to me. Thank you!

Well that looks interesting, but still, the lavender birds with a darker head/neck are prettier if you ask me...rather than a pure lav bird I mean...thanks for explaining.
